Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {15}

Hey, y’all! We’ve reached another multiple of 5! Right now, Passover’s going on, so I hope you’re having a nice holiday time, celebrate it or not. (Whoops, same for Easter.) But perhaps more important than either of those, today is 4/13….the birthday of Homestuck! Maybe I can make awkward Homestuck references more than usual during the blog to celebrate.

Although, I’m actually not sure how long this blog will go for…I’m starting a little late, so we may just play til we beat Olivia and call it a night? Eh, we’ll take it as we go!

Last time, we left off after Thoroughly Exploring Konikoni City. That wasn’t my latest adventure, though! Off-camera, I went back to do some exploring in Lush Jungle because an NPC told me I could get an Oranguru there. Well….

Here he is! I didn’t really want to name him King Louie, so his namesake is the gorilla from Teen Titans. He’s a pretty cool dude. So cool, in fact, that I think I’m gonna try leveling him up for a while?? I mean, he doesn’t share types with my current team, and he’s definitely meant to be a Special attacker. Although Mallah’s moveset doesn’t look very focused around attacking moves…I had to give him TM Charge Beam, because before that he only had Stored Power. (Apologies for any worse-than-usual screenshots; the lighting’s not great tonight!)

I went around to try and level Mallah up before the fight, but now I’ve realized I’m just going to fall asleep if I start level grinding right now. So I’m actually gonna try out the EXP Share for this fight! There’s a first!

And here’s some conflict!

DRAMATIC ZOOM

I am now fighting in place of….the President of the Aether Foundation? Can’t wait to learn all about them in a second.

Wait, where?! who are you

Nope, they’re gone. HEAL UP, MOVE ON

Wow, past the Team Skull roadblock is a whole bunch of stuff! I’m seeing trainers and Zygarde bits and a whole bunch of stuff. Might be a while yet.

FOUND A NEW POKEMON! It’s Gumshoos, the evolution of Yungoos! It’s not a super different design, but an interesting name. And is it Gumshoos as in gumshoe, since they’re the Stakeout Pokemon? Do we have a gutsyGumshoe on our hands?

Also, Dug just leveled up and tried to learn Stealth Rock. Not today, buddy….but I’m making a note of that for the competitive scene.

Another one of my recent additions. This must be where Olivia’s Probopass came from.

I’m almost to the end of these outskirts, and….huh, Mallah’s not doing too bad. He’s already level 24, fighting on his own and everything. I think his design’s too complete for him to evolve, but man, I hope he does!!

WHOOPS WE GOT AN ADMIN

!!!!!!!! I HAVE HEARD THIS NAME.

I follow a couple of webcomic artists on Twitter, and one of them namedropped this lady and I think must have posted some fanart. I saw the name, not the art, and was unable to get it out of my head – so I assumed for a while that Plumeria was the name of Rowlet’s third evolution. You know, wisteria, plume of feathers. Wasn’t expecting this, though! She’s like an eagle! Dang!

She calls herself the big sister of the Team Skull peeps and visions of fluffy family-times art is immediately flooding my brain.

“But don’t you think some dummies are cute in their dumbness?” plumeria

Oops now we’re fighting. As I beat up this Golbat, I can’t help but wonder if she thinks of Gladion as a little sibling too, or ~*something more*~

Golbat’s down. Her next Pokemon is Salandit! I was kind of expecting another Chemical X Pokemon thingy, but that’s perfect for Mallah – we got it in one hit!

She should really stop pulling those pigtails so tight.

And…..there she goes. That was, uh. Okay she BETTER be important later on

I’m moving on to the Ruins of Life proper. Team assessment: we’re overall gonna be pretty bad against Rock-types. Dug, Branch, and Silkie have no good moves for them (Water-type moves on Mareanie when), and while Tulip could hold her own, she’ll be a glass cannon. One strong hit and she might be down! Now, Mallah…he’s still around four levels lower than the rest of the team, but he just learned Nasty Plot from that fight against Plumeria. If he sets up with NP and goes to town with Stored Power, he could do some serious damage, especially considering that Rock-type Pokemon are typically slow with lowish special defense.

(Yes, I am a nerd.)

I’m at a loss as to how to counter a Probopass if she actually has one, though. Let’s go on ahead.

We’ve been INTERCEPTED

She’s talking about the Masked Royal. Burnet. Burnet you are a scientist.

Hey, Lillie just healed my Pokemon! Aww, I like you.

Soooo….this is where Tapu Lele is! It’s agitating Nebby, for some reason.

That is a good question. My current theory is pretty much just that Nebby is a little babby Guardian who maybe got lost in some way pertaining to the Ultra Wormhole. Do Z-Moves fit into this? What is Nebby’s secret special power?? Is Lillie a space goddess???

Oh dang, that’s cool. I hope we see Tapu Lele right before/after the boss fight.

And the music kicked up….you know what? I’mma hecking go for it!

cool

First Pokemon: Nosepass. It tried to paralyze me, but Mallah already likes me enough that it broke through the paralysis. YOU GO, DUDE! I haven’t stacked up nearly enough Nasty Plot, though!

Okay…Sp. Attack is maxed out. I’ve healed the paralysis, and the Stored Power did the trick! Next is…..LYCANROC WAT

It’s….a werewolf??? AND IT KNOWS BITE OH JEEZ OH NO nope we survived. And thank GOSH Lycanroc isn’t Dark-type! It got taken out in one hit!

Last Pokemon is a Boldore. I know Mallah can do this, but I have to heal up.

Got down to 1HP, avoided a Headbutt, and…..WE DID IT. Mallah grew a level! AND WE WON!

GRAND TRIAL #2 COMPLETE. Rockium Get! Oh man, this is replacing the Normalium i m m e d i a t e l y.

“The Rock type is physically hard, strong and rugged. So nothing like me at all!” That is sweet. And really cool that they’d acknowledge it in this way. Rock seemed an arbitrary choice.

Hmm. And finally we have a little moment between Nebby and Olivia. She seems to have a guess that something we don’t.

He did the ‘aue’ thing again! Have I been missing that this whole time?

OH! They’re talking about the green President person again….looks like he’s a guy, then. Now we know our next destination.

The Aether Foundation makes Lillie nervous….I guess she remembers the opening cutscene.

Uh….hey, it’s Tapu Lele’s den! Are we supposed to be exploring this now…?

Well, it’s a giant strength puzzle, so I guess I’ll be leaving that for later. Right now, I gotta get to a Pokemon Center.

And here we are at a junction in Heahea City, close to the way towards the Hano Grand Resort, and this is where I’ll be leaving things for the night! It feels like I’ll trigger another cutscene if I step too close. Who haven’t we seen in a while? Gladion?

And here’s a look at my team. Our biggest problem is moves and movesets right now, but with Mallah’s help I think we’ll be able to overcome our reliance on physical attacks. Please ignore Kevin. He is there for scale.

Pretty interesting characters introduced in this episode…happy 4/13, all!

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {14}

Heya guys! AW YEAH, I SHOULD MAKE A POST!

Last time – and this is as much a reminder for me as for you guys – we appear to have left off here!

We just beat Mallow the chef lady and the super-difficult Fomantis evolution, *checks* Lurantis! Now it’s time to go on down to Olivia and see if we can beat her. Maybe she’ll be in that Diglett’s Tunnel.

Before we do that, though, some NPC or somethin’ mentioned that Comfey could be found in the jungle, so I’m definitely heading back now that the trial is over! (Ah, yes, and Rotom is helpfully reminding me of the Dimensional Research center.)

????? Found one? I, uh, what am I looking at, here – a bracelet? I got spoiled on the name by some Gijinka fanart, so I don’t know what I was expecting its appearance to be like. I think I was just imagining Cottonee.

Okay, it wasted my last Ultra Ball, but I threw a Nest Ball and caught it! Let’s check this thing out. Looking at it on the capture screen, it’s actually pretty cute once you can make out where its face is. It’s pretty much just a lei. And hey, it’s pure Fairy! I thought it was Grass!!

What a fitting name!

Right…Fomantis, Paras, Bonsly, Metapod, and I feel like these are all the rest of the Pokemon I’m gonna find in the near future. Time to move on!

Hey, it’s Lillie! Been a while! I feel like I arrived just in time, because…no…you can’t just tell a Pokemon to use Splash, that’s….that’s like the worst thing ever………

Wh – DUDE, I AM OFFENDED

We’ve been spotted! (I’m mostly including this image because Nebby is really cute.)

Apparently, the lab we’re at studies “dimensions.” I feel like the last time we had dimension talk was the Delta Episode in ORAS, where, if I’m not mistaken, they went on about ORAS being in a literal separate dimension than R/S/E. Which, like, omg that’s awesome

“How were your trials?” I’m gonna be honest and say ‘it was really tough’. Yeah, she’s not surprised.

We’re in the building! +10 for Hoopa reference!

WIFE SPOTTED

Her name’s Professor Burnet. Is…is that a tree?Screenshot 2017-04-09 at 12.16.08 AM.png

Apparently, I’m not the only Pokemon fan to wonder that!

But yeah, hahaaaa I KNEW we’d meet Kukui’s partner sometime in the game. I spotted his wedding ring during the PokeSkype call! I bet I get Internet cookies for that or something!

!!!!!!!!! dude what

….okay, now she’s moving on to Hau. COME ON, THAT WAS INTERESTING! Nebby was knocked out, too?? Is this like the opening of PMD Explorers of Sky, except Lillie got turned back to human??

WOAH hau out of nowhere

The reason this is all weirdly exciting to me is because Pokemon sometimes struggles with the pacing of its story/gameplay/mythology. Starting up the backstory BEFORE we’re 4/5ths through the game is good in my book!

Edgy.

Soo….Nebby seems uncomfortable. If mysterious Pokemon come out of this wormhole, did that happen to Cosmog too?

They’re called “Ultra Beasts” and the guardians of Alola fought against them. THAT’S COOL.

And with that, I have free reign to see the lab. Lillie says that Burnet was the one who rescued her and hooked her up with Kukui, and…that’s just really CUTE! Lillie needs a mom figure, awww!

….Who?

And the Interdream Zone? Foreshadowing? What?

[4/9/17 future edit for Mohn being the name of the Pokepelago guy whoops]

In any case, that was an enlightening and in no way plot-relevant trip! Time to head off to Konikoni Village.

AFTER THAT THING HAPPENS.

I’m now a little ways into Diglett’s Tunnel (nothing super eventful is happening) and suddenly the Aether Foundation appears. I remember these guys from earlier…what could they want?

Hmm….they’re helping out the Diglett that got riled up after Team Skull disturbed them. That’s a very nice and logical reason to be here.

But HERE’S who I was expecting! How’d the Aether guys get past them?

‘Aue’? I have never heard that exclamation before.

Well, we had a predictably pretty easy Double Battle. MOVING ON!

We made it out of the tunnel! This is a pretty interesting sign. Especially considering the officer just to the left of it will fight you!

This is interesting…looks like I’ve reached Konikoni, but just next to it is another Pokemon cemetery. The Ruins of Life! Right now I’m wandering around battling people in it. It is very odd that they don’t even bother to give this place some somber music. Tapu Lele is said to come here, though, which is cool.

….All the grieving people’s Pokemon beaten up? Cool, let’s keep moving.

Awww, this is such a cute little town! And hey, it’s the delivery Delibird!

And…a Probopass?

Incense, Pokemon Massage…looks like all the familiar shops and services are bundled up here! AND HEY LOOK A STYLIST! I think I’m due for a new look…

A little lighter and longer…more like me irl. I think it’s nice!

Other shops include….TMs! Clothing (with a Pokemon called Oranguru inside)! Herbs! OH GOD ALL MY SAVINGS ARE GONE!

My new look. True Fashion

I stopped by the Pokemon Center to sell some Pearls and things and a random Aether member actually said that Oranguru can be found in Lush Jungle. I’ll be going back, then! I missed a spot!

Ruins of Life…hey, I was just there!

Olivia’s shop sells evolutionary stones (bought a Leaf Stone), headbands (bought all the purple ones), and I can choose between getting the Plume or Armor Fossil. Hm…I already have a rock type, so I guess it doesn’t matter? I’m gonna go with Tirtouga – Armor Fossil – just in case I need another Water-type. Branch doesn’t actually know any Water moves.

….oh wait, I have to pay for it? Ehhhhh I’ll do it in the postgame, once I’m rich.

What’s up with the weird angle for this part of town?

I just passed by a lady who gave me a Pikanium…*sigh* okay I guess I’m not surprised that Pikachu is getting even more special treatment

okay, just, look at how much of a D O R K Leah is now

That looks like it’s everything in Konikoni. This wouldn’t really function well as a town, being a bunch of kiosks, but it’s really cool and nice otherwise! I guess it’s time to head back to the Ruins of Life for our SHOWDOWN with Olivia!!

……that is, we’ll do that next time! It’s actually quite late now, so I’m going to leave off here:

and we’ll tackle the grand trial once we resume! Between then and now, I might also stop back in Lush Jungle and find that Oranguru. It shouldn’t be too eventful, just more standard Pokemon-searching, but I’ll have my phone ready in case something exciting happens.

Quick team update – Tulip, Silkie, Dug, and Branch are all levels 27-28.

See you all next time!

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {13}

Been a couple weeks, but hey, everybody! Happy March! Last time I was round these parts, we left off here:

in the Battle Dome Thing, shortly after beating Kiawe and acquiring a Cool New Charizard. Today’s task is to advance through the next route and catch even more new Pokemon. My team and the matter of who even belongs on it has been in a bit of turmoil lately. Man, I don’t even know either.

Yeahhhhh. TULIP SILKIE DUG BRANCH LET’S GO!

GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS GUYS GRASS-TYPES

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! w;ODFSKHJŚLD;JFKASFLKNHASDFĹKNASFDḰLAFDASĹFADSLHFSDLHFSHLASDHLÁFDLHFADLFASLDHFDSLHFKSLDFSLDALFHASDJFDSHLFSADFSAHFSADHFSADHJFSADHJFSADHSFDAHFSDHFDSJFDH

IT’S COLRESS HOLY CRAP

HOLY CRAP I’M FREKAIING OUT THIS IS A BLACK AND WHITE REFERENCE THING IN 3D AND OH MY GOD I LOVE THOSE GAMES KSO OJMUVHDFPJDSDFJ

FREAKING,,,,,,,, SPAMTYPING WHILE I ‘M WAITING FOR MY IMAGES TO LOAD SO I CAN PASTE THEM IN AND MOVE ON WITH THE GAME AND TAKE MORE SCREENSHOTS THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO PRETEND I AM A COHERENT LIVE-UPDATED BLOFG

HERE HAVE A WHOLE BUNCH OF THEM, I WAS MASHING THE CAMERA BUTTON

I REALLY REALLY GOSH DANG LOVE BLACK&WHITE OKAY

Okay. just. i’m fine now. good lord colress didn’t even leave THat big of an impression of me in B2 but i guess seeing a gen 5 character in 3D really just got to me. because i lvoe the characters in thise games iILOVE THIEM SO MUCH

He’s looking for Z-Rings! And also….is it just me, or do I hear these high-pitched beepings in the background of the music? Is it because Colress is here and he’s the sciencey Magnezone dude. *checks screenshot again* wait he’s actually typing on his lil arm cannon, that makes sense

He gave me Flame Charge! yooo nice

Aw heck, I didn’t think to screenshot it, but someone fiiiiinally acknowledged how similar the Z-Ring and the Mega-Ring were….except powering up moves is apparently stronger than giving whole new evolutions to Pokemon? Why not! Also, Poké Pelagos?

Goodbye, Colress….nice seeing you while it lasted. please come back with some of your other gen 5 friends in 3d sometime. please

Now here’s a place! Cool violin music. Also, those look like those guys who were chasing Lillie in the beginning? ????

“Aether Foundation” – well okay, first of all, why did we get Team Skull and not Team Aether

I want one

So this is interesting….the Aether fellows just seem to want some more data on Stufful; they’ll even pay me for it. And those guys in the corner – they just want to heal that Slowpoke, and they even called Team Skull out as thugs. So…are they not evil, despite this eerily sanitary white facility? Why were they after Lillie – did she take Nebby from them? Hmmmmm.

Better go off and do some exploring, then.

Trumbeak! Now I know one of Pikipek’s evolutions!

OH. OH MAN GUYS. I didn’t realize this before, but Poké Pelago isn’t an island I have to find – it’s a new option right in my menu!

Nice to meet you, Mohn.

Aha, so Poke Beans finally have a use!! And look, my sad neglected PC Pokemon have a place to wander in – cool!!

This seems like more of an addictive spare-time thing, so I’m moving on. I poked around in it for a while and got a bunch of beans and developed Isle Aplenny, so I can grow berries (!), but it doesn’t look like this will impact the liveblog too much! Onwards!

(I will indeed go to Pokemon Refresh and feed Branch two Rainbow Beans and COMPLETELY MAX OUT HIS AFFECTION HOLY CRUD though, thank you.)

TARGET ACQUIRED.

So THIS is the name of this little dude! Nice to finally know!

And, uhhh – this Pokemon started calling for help, and then they were attacking each other?? I think Tulip’s Pluck was supereffective on it, too – so, judging by this lovely pink coloration and the move Brutal Swing, I’m gonna guess that we have ourselves the first fighting/fairy type!

…no, it’s just Normal/Fighting. STILL COOL.

“A touch from anyone except a known friend sends it into a surging frenzy. It’s an incredibly dangerous Pokemon.” I am, uh, a little scared

I was gonna name it Steven because it was pink and sweet, but I’m naming it Gaston instead I guess, why not

I took Gaston into Pokemon Refresh to see if its mannerisms were – quirky,  but no, it seems harmless. Even after I poked it repeatedly! For, um, for science.

Salandit, Trumbeak, Yungoos, and Stufful….I feel like this is the most Pokemon I’m gonna get out of this route, so I’d best move on to Lush Jungle.

Ugh…this Trainer on the way had a Shieldon that knew Iron Defense and Taunt. The only way to take it down was to brute-force it, which is a HUGE problem since I still only have physical attacking moves. This is why I need to get a Special attacker asap. At least there’s another Pokemon Center right after this.

!!!!!! GUYS! THIS IS THAT JOKE I MADE IN THE LAST EPISODE!!!

So there’s this hotel right around here:

please tell me gladion is just bumming it in here

….what the frick i was just kidding what the frick

b e s t   g a m e

Okay, continuing towards Lush Jungle! NPCs are starting to namedrop new Pokemon – I’ve heard Comfey and Wimpod. And there’s this rocky area where a little gray Pokemon escaped into a cave before I could get it…I want

Okayyy….looks like it runs every time I get near it, so I’m gonna have to go the long way around this little pool of water every time. I might actually want to break the Repels out for this.

I DID IT! It’s a Wimpod and it’s really ugly!

“wimp out” are you kidding me that’s an ability what the FRICK let’s do this again

you better believe i have quick balls

IT WORKED! That was stressful!

Glad to have you on board, ya waste of existence.

With that out of the way, I am slowly inching closer and closer to Mallow’s actual trial!! I’LL GET THERE!! THERE’S JUST SO MANY POKEMON!!!!

Oh, this is interesting! I’ve been catching every Zygarde bit I could find, and I guess I hit a quota.

!!!!! OKAY THIS IS INTERESTING. First of all, Ula’ula Island is finally namedropped outside of the Pokedex! And they have an Aether Base there, which sounds pretty ominous, actually…And!!! What does Sina have to do with the Aether Foundation? Is this Dexio&Sina backstory? Are we gonna get, like, this big Aether + Professors’ Assistants conspiracy?

After exploring the heck out of this place (which connects straight to Brooklet Hill!), I went back to the start, where an Ace Trainer said she’d battle me after all the other Trainers were out of the way, and:

Her Fearow knows a Z-Move, Supersonic Skystrike, and it’s just this huge and kind of terrifying plummet from above

But Silkie survived!!!!

never mind

UGH okay let’s get in here

HECK YEAH!!! GRASS-TYPES!!!!!

So the trial is collecting ingredients for her…this reminds me of Hotel Richissme in Pokemon XY, where they had that sidequest that made you memorize a list of ingredients to give to some customers who ordered room service. I was usually too stubborn to write them down, so I had to learn the memorization of random berries and Pokemon items real fast. I could get $150,000 dollars PER DAY from that place after a while, though, so it was definitely worth it…

YES!! LET’S DO IT!!! BEAUTIFUL NATURE!!!!

First ingredient found: Revival Herb: Then a Fomantis attacked me.

OH! Found the Moss Rock! Maybe I should’ve brought Tom the Eevee along, just to have an emergency Leafeon…nahhh. I’d probably get Umbreon this time around, if anything.

Gonna be honest, though – even taking out the GRASS! aspect, I really like this challenge. Digging around for items means I’ve already gotten a ton of free stuff!

Second ingredient found: Miracle Seed! Had to call Tauros and crush some rocks for that one.

Third ingredient found: Tiny Mushroom, a –

Dude! Look how COOL this thing is! Man, I wish this wasn’t a trial because I REALLY want to catch it!!

Sigh…anyways, I found the last ingredient! Mago Berry! We good, Mallow?

Ooh, I’m a little nervous as to what the trial is gonna be…here’s hoping it’s the evolution to Fomantis?!

!!!! IT’S!!!!! FRIEND!!!!! IT’S THIS GUY!!!!! I LIKE YOU A LOT!!!!!

AND IT’S LANA!!! put your guards up everyone

Thick Club, Rare Bone, Fresh Water, Rocky Helmet – Mallow, are you sure this is edible

“Now we just need something from the newbie!” Mallow says as she tears into Leah with knifelike claws and sucks out her soul

sucks out her soul

Well, these ingredients apparently make the Mallow Special! I’m all healed up, right…? Yeah, let’s just go for it!

…what is this circus music going on

Oh, you know, that actually makes sense. I was kind of expecting Pokemon to just run with it.

Can I have more of these guys just, like, doing things, and being friends, and talking around a campfire roasting Mallow’s Mallows® and discussing each other’s weird ideas for trial challenges

H E C K    Y E S

I couldn’t screenshot any of that but Mallow was laughing at me, I think.

!!!!!! LURANTIS!!!!!!! I LOVE IT! I LOVE THAT IT APPEARED LIKE A HORROR MOVIE! I LOVE THAT KIAWE SAW IT FIRST! POKEMON IS GETTING CINEMATIC, YO!

Tulip’s up in my roster, so…Pluck it until she dies? Sounds good

This is weird, though – why would Castform be summoned?

…wait, Lurantis just used synthesis

wait castform just used sunny day

castform probably has weather ball doesn’t it

o h n o

Yeah, that ended poorly. BRANCH! Toxic!

DFGHJKL;’ IT HAS LEAF GUARD

And Branch is down!!!! I missed it, but Lurantis used SOME kind of crazy Grass attack that got him down to the red! …and then a headbutt from Castform took him down, honestly

it is called SOLAR BLADE. First, that is awesome, and second, rip dug and I think I’m gonna die

I am now using Gaston for fodder while I revive my other Pokemon, and he, somehow, was able to survive Solar Blade. good on ya

SILKIE AVOIDED WEATHER BALL BECAUSE SHE LOVES ME THANK GOD

SHE AVOIDED AN X-SCISSOR TOO

CASTFORM IS DEAD AND IT CAN CALL TRUMBEAK?? YOU SERIOUS

Okay. Okay. I’m getting this under control. Sun is gone and I’m gonna try Toxic again, crap Branch just got a critical hit something and died

HE SURVIVED THIS TIME WE’RE FINE WE’RE FINE IM HEALING

HE SURVIVED A SOLAR BLADE & TOXIC IS GO

HEAL MORE, DARN YOU

just one more move lurantis is badly poisoned and her hp is in the red

WE DID IT

SILKIE

SILKIE AND BRANCH WERE THE LAST ONES STANDING

HAHA NO I COMPLETELY CHEATED DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY ARTIFICIAL CHEMICALS I SHOVED DOWN MY POKEMON’S THROATS

Kiawe just used the word “vaunted” and, like, did i know that was a word

sthu mallow this is abuse

weak, exhausted cheers

Now we’re eating delicious food and all Lana said was *lick*. Just *lick*. Why is that so weird.

……………………………………………………………………….

mallow actually WAS trying to kill us

hello, professor kukui. i’m so tired. please help my pokemon

Smart Strike is a cool name for that TM he just gave us, at least!

Oh! Type confirmation – Olivia uses Rock-types. Hmm. Tulip and Branch are good, Dug’s neutral, Silkie isn’t the best (though she pulled her weight this time around)…man, I REALLY WANT some actual Water-type moves already. Water Pulse TM where.

To meet up with her, I’m gonna have to find the Dimensional Research Lab on Route 6. My Pokemon are not healed up, though, so run run run run run run run

My team is safe and sound, so this is where I’m gonna leave off!

Pokemon has become emotionally exhausting and difficult, I type with the cheery Pokemon Center music blaring in the background. Forty-one hours and fifty-seven minutes have been put into this game. There is no turning back now.

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {12}

Directly after the last episode….it is I, MissMash! Hello there!

Don’t know about you, but I’ve been swimming around on a Lapras for an awfully long time now….maybe a trip to someplace really warm and dry, like a volcano park, is just what I need ;D

Woah okay okay okay. Hold up. They are absolutely reusing a track from Pokemon XY for this route. I can’t remember which one…near Frost Cavern or Anistar, wasn’t it? But holy crud, how could they do that?? I mean, I know you folks spent months or years of your time carefully programming a gorgeous game, along with creating moving and interactive 3D sprites for probably over 800 Pokemon, but reuse a game track??? The pinnacle of laziness! Unforgivable!

You know, I really want to see what Pokemon I can find.

Iiiiiiit’s….a Magby! Well, all right then! Branch is leading, so here’s a good place to test out his battling prowess, since he’s still only level 14.

He held out til Magby was caught! Nice one!

Next Pokemon – a Cubone, also easily caught. Named Lucy. The Loud family is proving quite useful.

Next Pokemon – okay what the FRICK

Lizards, eh? I know some people who like those! Strangely enough, it’s using Sweet Scent against me…

Now wait a gosh darn minute, it just poisoned Branch. He’s Poison-type! I thought that wasn’t possible!

aw heck yes this thing is POISON/FIRE TYPE! If you like poisonous lizards, you know who you are, and I am just finding ALL your favorites today!

There’s practically only one name for a black n’ red bandit.

I won’t lie, playing with Branch in Pokemon Amie is just the tiniest bit terrifying. But, you know, he’s still cute! i-in his own way.

Hey, a Magmar just allied with a Magby! I had to switch out from Branch for this, but woah – Dug’s Keen Eye actually came in handy when Magmar used Smokescreen three times. Gotta admit I was underestimating that ability.

SPEAKING OF ABILITIES: Salandit has Corrosion, which lets it Poison Steel- and Poison-types! I could swear I’ve heard that name for an ability idea tossed around before…maybe it was for a Poison-move that hurt Steel-types. Well, you predicted it, Internet! Great job!

I don’t want to start making a mess over what Pokemon to put on my team, but…man, Salandit is cool. I’ll have to consider which Poison-type I want.

The Pokemon hunt continues; I found a Fletchling! I’m still getting used to these not being the most basic thing in existence, but hey, this is actually good. It means I’ll have a flier with Flame Body to use to care for my Pokemon eggs (and baby Bounsweet!) in the future.

Clearly, this means I will have to name this Pokemon after a qualified caretaker of children.

I am now approaching the trial area! Branch is level 18…that might be enough if only he had a Water move.

Look how pretty!!

AAUUUUUGH OMG

MY HORRIBLE MISTAKE HAS BEEN REDEEMED, DUG NO LONGER HAS TO SUFFER

Okay, I’ve been meandering in the hopes of running into a cool Pokemon (cough Alolan Vulpix) but I think I’ve found about all I can. For real now, I’m headin’ though the trial gates.

There he is up ahead!! Ooh, and he’s on a fancy platform.

Hello there!

Pokemon name drop – he’s got a Marowak.

oh jeez what

WHAT KIND OF GAMEPLAY DOES THIS EVEN CLASSIFY AS

“Begin” WAIT I KNOW I SAID I WAS READY BUT

Oh, good, he paused – I thought I wouldn’t be able to get any pictures in at all during this bit. Interesting…so Marowak have Alolan forms, but Cubone don’t?

NO TIME TO BLOG NOW GUYS, I GOTTA PAY ATTENTION

Oh, wow, there’s a “show me again” option 😄 How lenient! Anyways, it was the right Marowak, wasn’t it?

;~~~~~~~;

OH GOSH WE’RE FIGHTING NOW I’M REALLY SORRY I DIDN’T UNDERSTAND

This Marowak looks like Dragon-type, but Branch’s Bite was super-effective…and, right, Ground vs Poison. I’m using Tulip for this.

…though, Grass-moves aren’t very effective? Hmm…

Well, I beat it! Okay, I get the test now – it’s only the final snapshot that matters; I was trying to keep track of the whole dance. And also blog.

The middle is different!

“B-but how?!” dude

what come on kiawe is making me fight again

OH, HOLD ON. Could the new typing be Ghost/Fire? That would explain Dark and Rock being supereffective…that’s actually really interesting, and just like Litwick, they have Cursed Body. I’m reminded of that one theory that Cubone and Charmander are related, and the Fire-typing would support that.

Second dance, okay. NEXT

Oh my god wait, I’m literally taking pictures of the dances?? I could have used those to not get it wrong last time???? HOW DARE I SUGGEST I SACRIFICE MY OWN INTEGRITY! I AM TAKING PICTURES FOR THE SAKE OF THIS BLOG AND NO OTHER REASON.

seriously though. okay let’s see if i get this one right this time

wh – WHERE DID HE COME FROM

GEE, I WONDER WHAT’S DIFFERENT

GEE, ISN’T IT INTERESTING THAT KIAWE ACTUALLY RECRUITED A RANDOM HIKER TO STAND AROUND ON THE MOUNTAIN AND WAIT FOR HIS CHANCE TO PHOTO BOMB THE DANCES

Not gonna lie, Kiawe lost me on that one. Okay, Hiker is down, what happens next.

New headcanon that Random Hiker Dude is both Kiawe’s dance partner and his husbando and they practice dancing together on the mountain all the time and the Hiker agreed to sign up for this if Kiawe would come home and help with the dishes more often

what the frig, that thing is terrifying

btpfi1im

what are these options

WAIT, I GET IT, THEY’RE ALL THE SAME BECAUSE LEAH IS SO CONFUSED AT HOW OBVIOUS THE NEW POKEMON IS, OMG THAT’S AMAZING

POKEMON IS CAPABLE OF BEING FUNNY AND MAKING FUN OF HOW EASY ITS PUZZLES ARE, GUYS, YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST

…….WAIT HOLY CRUD THAT’S THE TOTEM POKEMON AND IT’S GONNA JUMP AT ME AND BATTLE ME AS SOON AS I CLICK THE OPTION. I DON’T WANT THIS. IT’S A SCARY DEMONIC LIZARD THING

no i gotta be brave. I  can do this.

……..

COME AT ME BRO

(but oh my god the totem pokemon just wanted to have fun too)

Here we gooooo! It’d be cool to use Branch in this battle, but, sadly, there’s no way he can stand against a Lv. 22 Salazzle and its lackey. I’ll just use Dug to Rock Tomb i –

…wait, I wondered if it was even weak to Rock Tomb for a second there because the “super effective” icon didn’t pop up, but we’re fine! It was just a new Pokemon, so the game wasn’t telling me its typing! Just two Rock Tombs took it out!

Dug’s poisoned, but there’s just one Salandit left onscreen – and there it goes!

WE DID IT.

YYYYYYYEAHHHHHHHH

awwwww

Kiawe gave me Quick Balls! Yes, those are my favorite!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should be used to getting even more Pokemon to ride on every time…but !!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHARIZARD

Oh my gosh, Kiawe just LAUGHED! He’s not so stoic after all! I guess Leah’s reaction to being given full control of a flaming draconic monstrosity must have been pretty funny.

🙂

And, fast as a speeding Charizard, we’re back inside the Battle Royal Pokemon Center.

And of course, that’s where we stop for the night! THAT WAS SO AMAZING!!!! KIAWE IS SO COOL!!!!!!! Salazzle was way easier than Wishiwashi, but I feel like that doesn’t even MATTER after that presentation!

Here’s my current party, which, I understand, went through quite the push and pull over these last two liveblogs.

Silkie, Dug, and Tulip are still my absolute members, and Branch is my apprentice-in-training! I think I’ll hand Red X off to the box; I did consider him, but my curiosity is sated after seeing his evolution. Salandit and Salazzle are indeed amazing, but sadly, I didn’t find my dream Fire-type in Wela. It seems a little too soon to pull five Pokemon onto my team, anyways. Maybe a couple episodes from now…

But that’s then, and now: I’m off for the night!

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {11}

Another liveblog, and so soon, too! Hi all! I picked up the game in my off time so I could run back to Brooklet Hill to grab a Morelull, since I’d seen somewhere that they could only be found at night (and night in the game is midday irl). Then I took so long nicknaming it (Johnny Bravo is fitting right…….) that I was settled into the game and figured what the heck, I’ll keep on going.

Pokemon is my life and this game is taking over my life.

Feels weird reminding you guys so soon of where we left off, but here is Leah! Let’s not waste any time and get moving – maybe I won’t whittle the day away again on a liveblog this time!

Random NPC guy mentioned that Kiawe was a dancer. I’d like to see that, dude!

I went the opposite way of the Wela Volcano and found that there’s this nice little beach, and I’m able to access hidden items more now because I have Lapras! Oh boy, I’ll be spending a good bit of time here…and hey, there was that beach on Hau’Oli….aw jeez this is why this isn’t a let’s play

dUDE I found all these strange little caves here with dust clouds on the ground and I walked into one and found….oh it’s just Diglett nvm

I found a Swimmer out here! Seriously, this is like a whole other optional route!!

Hey, you know, since this is all a sidequest thing as far as I know, I’m gonna let Bouncee battle whatever I find. I really want her to evolve, and besides, next up in the level-to-24 rotation is Dug – and he’s not gonna be the greatest in the water. Gotta save him for the Fire-types just across the road.

New Pokemon sighted – Mareanie! LOOK AT THIS LITTLE GROTESQUE PURPLE

Would like to inform that Bouncee just fought a Shellder and survived five Icicle Spears plus a critical. Please share your love and respect

(she fainted to something else while I was typing that but that’s fine)

TM THUNDER WAVE HAS BEEN FOUND. All shall fall before Silkie.

And in the center of this odd little island is a fishing pool…all I’m finding here are Magikarp and a Heart Scale, just like Brooklet Hill, but could there be something else too?

(Also, it is currently nighttime in-game and I’m p sure that if I bathed in this thing I would turn into a mermaid)

Hmm…UGH I don’t want to waste more hours and hours fishing up Magikarp over and over, so I’m moving on. This is unsettling me. Why is this here?

OH. OH MAN GUYS. I FOUND A PYUKUMUKU WHILE I WAS SURFING

guys!!!! it’s so cute!!! it’s cuter than the tiny little blobby sprites made it out to be!!!!!!

I, uh…what do I name it?? My first instinct is Patrick except HECK no because he’s an awful character nowadays and this Pyukumuku is a sweet innocent blobby little piece of pie. I…ummmmm……….

there is no better name

This thing is the last thing in the Pokedex for Akala, so I don’t think he’ll evolve, so I’ll stick with Sadness for now…he does have an interesting ability, though. “Innards Out.” Nice name, there.

Well, I feel better now about PROBABLY missing out on Big Secret 1% Chance Pokemon Encounters, so I guess I’ll go explore elsewhere!

(‘Elsewhere’ means Melemele Sea in Hau’Oli City, save me from this completionist madness)

Holy gosh there’s even more here than there was in Route 7.

??!?!?!?!?!?!!?

Well, if ever I’ve read a Pokemon fanfic, the proper response to a cute, injured Pokemon is to scoop it up in your loving arms and run, full-tilt, unstoppable, to the nearest Pokemon Center, probably exacerbating its injury all the while, until finally dumping into the gentle care of a nurse so that the Pokemon can later fall in love with you and join you on its epic quest of its own volition, and of course that Pokemon is either a shiny or a legendary because obviously it is.

But that’s stupid so let’s just give it a Potion.

Oh, a Trainer just came back! And…Mareanie like to eat Corsola’s branches, apparently? Is their name from ‘marine’ and ‘meanie?’ I just got a Wide Lens, so there’s that!

And there go the Corsola. (dangit)

Aha! Checking the Pokedex reveals that both Mareanie and Corsola can be found in the area I am currently in by fishing. Which means, oops, looks like I’ve got another one-percenter fishing quest coming up.

Now, I did just go to Bulbapedia and look up the percentages (as I admitted did with Feebas, because the last thing I want to be doing is wasting anyone’s time), and Corsola has a much better chance of being found in bubbling spots, and Mareanie is one of its ‘allies.’ So, nice! I guess I’ll just have to look for those!

I have found this little friend, though!! I actually adore Finneon and Lumineon. Sadly, they don’t get a lot of attention…

LEVEL 29 AND HOOOOOO IT’S HAPPENING

Tsareena!

 tsarina.jpg

(This is apparently what an actual tsarina looks like, for  comparison. Yeah sure why not)

I checked the description of Trop Kick and heck YES she’s learning it, it’s a seriously decent physical Grass move! We need more of those.

Now that that lovely intermission for this intermission is out of the way, Imma talk to you about Game Design:

So here’s me, near a fishing spot in Melemele Sea, trying to find bubbling spots to increase my chance of getting Corsola (and thus, Mareanie). I’ve figured out that you have to reset the area you’re in to reset the bubbling spots, which is a problem, since I AM in open sea, after all – it’s a hassle to swim back and forth from the scene-change by the beach to here, using Repels all the while, or to find a spot to land on in Hau’Oli Outskirts and then get right back on Lapras.

However! Going just a bit to the left of these rocks marks you close enough to the shore to change your location to the Outskirts. Going back, naturally, sends you back into the sea. And so:

All you have to do to reset for a bubbling spot is make one tiny lap around these rocks.

And I may not really know anything, but I know THAT’S good game design.

And, I kid you not, the ripples you see in the screenshot? THAT HAD A CORSOLA IN IT! It’s up on my screen right now. I’ve just gotta figure out how to get it to summon a Mareanie ally (definitely getting that first, Corsola afterwards) without fainting it…Bouncee has Teeter Dance, so I’ll probably spam it.

My luck has changed. Mashy is pleased.

First cry for help: It happened! MAREANIE IS THERE!!!!

I immediately killed the crud out of Corsola with Trop Kick and I am CATCHING THIS THING, THE BALL IS SHAKING, IT HAPPENED, I HAVE MAREANIE, TAKE THAT REDLION I KNOW YOU WERE TRYING TO SPOIL THIS FOR ME BUT I AM A POKEMON MASTER WHO CAN FIND STUFF ON HER OWN LIKE AN ADULT

I NAMED IT BRANCH AFTER THE PROTAGONIST OF THE TROLLZ MOVIE WHICH I NEVER SAW AND I’M NOT EVEN FOND OF IT OR ANYTHING BUT I DON’T CARE IT’S PERFECT BRANCH IS PERFECT

Okay. Okay. Well, I’m bumping Sadness, first of all, because even though Mareanie isn’t looking like much of a Special attacker, I have GOT to try it out. I didn’t catch a Pokemon of my friend’s favorite typing for nothing, gosh dang it!

And there’s my Corsola!

Well, there it is, guys…that felt like SO much more of an adventure and an accomplishment than it probably was, but I now have a Whole Bunch of Cool New Water Types!!!!!! It’s time for me to finally make my way back to where I was ACTUALLY supposed to go, the volcano, but hang tight; I’m making a pit stop along the way.

Bounceee…has been a good friend to me. Throughout the good times (mareanie) and the bad (feebas), she has been there, Razor Leafing everything in sight…and yet, it is not her who I turn to for typing, but my starter, my Dartrix. And so I have to let her go.

It was recommended to me by my friend (hi friend) that the ability I received for Bounsweet, Leaf Guard, is NOT the preferable one…so what I’m going to do is put Tsareena out to pasture in the Nursery with a nice gentleman to keep her company, and then they can make lil Bounsweet eggs and I’ll come back and hatch them for the other ability in the future, someday.

And, to the deepest of ironies, Johnny freaking Bravo the Morelull is the most optimal partner to put in there with her.

Farewell, Bouncee! Hold true to your truths and make your ideals a reality! I’LL NEVER FORGET YOU!

And here we are again at Route 7, a few steps from where we started! And that’s where I’m cutting the liveblog!

“But Mashy!” you cry, flailing your hands about, “you didn’t even make any progress in that episode! You just caught a bunch of Pokemon we already know about and badly commentated over it!”

Au contraire, young liveblog viewer! For while I am cutting le blog here, I am immediately starting up a new one. And this one, I promise, will ACTUALLY have Leah visiting the volcano. However, I cannot guarantee that I won’t again spend hours combing the tall grass for more new Pokemon.

….Sorry, retiring Bouncee put me in kind of a poetic mood :,)

May we meet again!

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {10}

Mashy here, and I hope you all have some responsibilities to procrastinate on, because it’s time for another liveblog! Let’s see where we left off:

Right outside this Center! Right, I was gonna see about fishing, but I eventually decided against it. Might try it out right now before I head on down Route 5.

I have already played over 27 hours of this game, by the way. This is probably a bad thing.

Things caught:

-A Magikarp. wooooo

-A pearl!

-A Goldeen

-A Heart Scale YUS

-A Gyarados, after a Magikarp CALLED FOR HELP AND SUMMONED ONE WHAT

And look at this, oh snap! I leveled the traded Bounsweet from last ep to level 18, and it looks like we’re already getting an evolution out of her! Gotta admit I’m really curious…

OMG I LOVE HER

And this is only the second form?! Can’t wait to see what the final one will be, then! I have the feeling that Steenee’s evolution will be a pleasure to work with someday!

O h m y g o d. I just searched for Feebas for forty-five minutes, and one minute before eleven PM, I found one and it fainted. FU

(I will say this – I am extremely thankful they didn’t try to pull that stunt with the random blocks of water like in DPPt)

OH MY GOD IT’S BEEN ANOTHER HOUR, GOOD MORNING EVERYONE

sweet flipping flip i did it. It’s been 130 minutes, one evolution, seven levels on Stenee, tens of thousands of dollars worth in Pearls big and small, and probably over fifty Magikarp encounters. BUT I DID IIIIIT

AND I GOT THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM THE GUY IN THE POKEMON CENTER. WAS IT WORTH IT. I DON’T EVEN KNOW ANYMORE.

Bouncee definitely deserves some cuddles in Pokemon Refresh for this.

She’s higher leveled than the rest of my team by this point, too – at this rate I might as well replace Tulip as my Grass-type! Ha ha. Ha.

Onto Route 6!

Well, this is about the least hidden Poke Ball I’ve ever seen. Also, this route is called “Straight Street” or some such, which is NOT an accident, considering it’s right next to the Nursery 😛

The first Trainer I’ve come across has a Magby, which makes it the perfect time to try out…WATERNIUM Z ON SADNESS!!!

WELL THAT WORKED WELL.

I am sort of second-guessing using Sadness, though. I prefer using Pokemon that can evolve, and if School Form Wishiwashi is all it gets, hmm….well, I’ll see how it goes! He stays for now!

UHHHHhhhhhh ???????

A Trojan horse? Mudbray evolution? A Rottweiler? ROCKRUFF EVOLUTION?!

Do not worry, small purple person getting harassed by Team Skull, I will protect you

“Well, yeah, I know them” I mean I gueeesss it’s trueeee ugh

THEIR NAME IS HAPU! NOW I’M BATTLING!

The Skull dude poisoned me, so now I’m just playing with Sadness with Refresh to heal him up, and they’re all just…watching me, I suppose! I have no idea how this working. Sadness is just floating there in midair while I’m petting him, and….okay???

(By the way, Tulip, Silkie, and Dug all have maxed out affection. SO MUCH LOVE.)

That’s okay, they’re probably way cooler than you.

Update, the big equine is named Mudsdale, so it’s definitely the evolution of Mudbray. That is…a WAY cooler final design than I’d expected. Does it have Stamina, too? I dig it!

Looks like Hapu was protecting that Drifloon…aww, and then they just get on their Mudsdale and go off. If they were a Ground-type Captain, that’d be cool!

Welp, Rotom’s urging me to check out the Battle Royale…why not!

Ooh, this place is bigger than I’d expected…………..OH LOOK IT’S GLADION

that’s adorable yo

I found some Pink Nectar…that’ll be good for any Oricorio I try to use! And this place is so neat – I’m looking over it all before I enter the arena!

I’M IN THE THRIFTY MEGAMART! What a place! I bought a bunch of stuff with the coupon, and it’s also a good place to sell those Pearls I collected and leave with even more money than I entered. (Also, I gave $1000 to a Hypno that turned out to be a creepy human that gave me TM Rest!)

I found this thing again – the little pink guy from Kukui’s lab! I still don’t know the name of it, but I have a suspicion that it’s this gen’s Pikachu clone based on how many people have it. My English teacher has a drawing of this guy pinned up on her bulletin board and I STILL don’t know the name.

ALSO, before I forget – I bought a Strange Souvenir! Let’s see if it gets more use here than it did in X&Y…

I left the market and went over to the malasada place – not much happened there, except that I gave Sadness a Sour Malasada – so I think it’s time to check out the Battle Royal Dome!

There’s Gladion, practically waiting for us. Something just occurred to me – remember when Lillie mentioned she was waiting to meet with someone? What if that someone was Gladion?

C…Crasher Wake?

Oh, that too

OH DUDE WE’RE FIGHTING ALL OF A SUDDEN. Me, Hau, Gladion, and the Masked Royal…all in a big, weird multibattle! GO SADNESS!

I’m using a Z-Move against Kukui’s Rockruff because I do not trust that thing…and it fainted, and it’s over!

Oh snap the music just cut out…if this guy is the Lava Captain, that was the most intense typing pun ever made

yyyyyyyep

Uh…….bye, dude!

Mr. Masked Royale is just having a friendly chat with Hau and I about our trials and Gladion’s there, but he’s facing the other way and I’m dYING BECAUSE HE REMINDS ME OF YURI PLISETSKY AGAIN

ow the edge

It’s too late to go to Route 7 and take Kiawe up on his challenge, so what I’m doing now is exploring the rest of Route 6 before I call it a night. Interesting things:

-A Trainer had a Cubone! No Alolan Forme there!

-Times I ran back to the Center: 1

-I gave Tweety the Oricorio the Pink Nectar, and it’s a little pink Psychic/Flying hula dancer now! Neat!

-Sadness reached level 20, so he can finally be in School Form all the time.

-Dug wanted to learn Rock Tomb, and I tried to teach it because it’s better than Rock Throw in every way, but I accidentally deleted it 😦

-That’s actually really upsetting omg

-That guy in Heahea was only a move deleter, right

-Have I met the move rememberer yet

-Should I go check

-Map says I haven’t

-WAIT, the move tutor is in Hau’oli…ummmm

-NO THAT’S TOO FAR I’M NOT DOING IT WHERE’S THE MOVE REMEMBERER

Then I realized Route 7 connected directly to Heahea, so I went back to Melemele just to check. I was disappointed.

Yeah, anyways.

Okay, woah…what’d I just do?

I was basically running around sulking when I came across this place I never explored, Diglett’s Tunnel, and Olivia here was just talking to two guys in white. Same people who were chasing Lillie at the beginning.

She won’t let me pass any further, so, hm…I guess that’s all I got for now. That was almost creepy for a bit there. Also, the Pokemon here are level 20 already what the heck.

I know that liveblog got a bit disjointed at the end there because of getting sidetracked, but I’m gonna end it now! I’m at the entrance of the next route, my team are all level 23, and I’m seeing some cool Fire-types in my future.

Here’s the fam…yeah, Bouncee is my honorary adopted daughter. She’s earned some kinda title, at least.

See you next time…KIAWE.

~*MissMash*~

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {9}

It is I, MissMash! Currently I’m at a friend’s house, but we all like Pokemon, so I don’t think anyone would mind if I started a liveblog now.

Take a look at my team:

Dug has been properly leveled! With luck, he’ll be up to 21 by the end of this blog. It was fun level grinding with him, too, even if we weren’t in the greatest area for him, and he has absolutely no ability to fight Mudbray, and he died like over twice more times than the rest of the team combined (once after two Grubbin teamed up against him). (no offense silkie).

So here I am, ready to continue the Grand Adventures of Leah!

PANIOLA RANCH! Already I can see both a Pokeball and a Zygarde bit, so I’ll be picking those up on my way.

I’m in a Pokemon Battle, and I’ve noticed that all the Trainers I’ve come across have the same ‘Trainer spotted!’ opening theme – which is a little disappointing, I won’t lie, because the music that came before the battles in B&W was awesome!

Hey, it’s Mallow! Hm, she’s a chef, right? And she’s checking out these Miltank? Uhhh…..

(oh, she’s just here for the moomoo milk. suuuuuuure.)

Uh????? Okay I have this now

I was gonna go off and try out Stoutland’s sniffing ability right away, but I accidentally activated a little boss fight thing against this Tauros! Why not, I’ll try it out!

I got a Scope Lens!!

this is so cute by the way

Looks like this is a pretty long, Trainer-heavy route, so I’ll be here for a while! Here’s a list of the notable things that happen:

-Dug died to a Mudbray again

-The Hidden Power lady gave me a TM and told me she’d check Hidden Powers!

-Not the daycare, but the NURSERY! And….IT GAVE ME AN EGG!!! I’ve probably hatched several hundred or thousand of those back in X&Y, but the very first one in a new game is an occasion to celebrate! (what wILL IT HATCH INTO)

-More hidden items

-An AMULET COIN

-“Look at the lustrous heads of my Pokemon!” thank you for that dialogue, pokemon breeder amanda,

-A whole bunch of items, both hidden and not

-And finally, some Sudowoodo performing their age-old duty of acting as ROADBLOCKS! They also dropped the hint that Captain Lana is a Water-trainer…not a problem for Silkie and Tulip, but I’m trying to train up Dug the Rock-type, so…wooooo.

Here’s Route 5! I gotta start my challenge by defeating all the Trainers. And there’s a pair of Twins over there….LET’S GO.

Hello, friend!

Hello, jerkface!

i-i have to choose it. I HAVE TO.

Oh sick, it’s Gladion! I thought this would be Lana. The boys-who-look-like-girls vibe is strong within this game.

yoooooo do we finally have a cool villain (who is null i want to meet them)

Also, can I…just……….

yurio

OH HEY WE’RE BATTLING! He has… a Zubat! Yeah, uh, you keep trying, buddy.

????? What am I about to see, here?

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Okay, well…it’s down and out. Right now my guess would be Dark-type, since the only move it used was Pursuit, but…Bite, Breakneck Blitz, and Rock Throw were all neutral. I wonder if, considering its name, this thing doesn’t HAVE any type advantages or disadvantages. Where can I get one?? The heck????

He’s homeless? Character details YES!! Also, we haven’t seen the female Grunts til now!

ALSO, CAN I JUST

abel

Anyways, it’s interesting that we’ve got a villain member that the lackeys don’t like very much. Hmmmm.

FFFFFFFFFFF STOP THE PRESSES, I FOUND SOMETHING NEW AND ADORABLE

Quality screenshot coming up as soon as I CATCH THIS THING. or wait. it fainted. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

oh my god where are they.

OKAY, OKAY, I FOUND ONE, I CAUGHT IT, I’M NAMING IT NOW,

There we are! This animation name is more obscure than usual; it’s after Princess Amalia Sheran Sharm from Wakfu.

I was expecting Bug/Grass, but Fomantis is just pure Grass! NEAT! I cannot use her, sadly, because I have Dartrix already, but I might keep her around and see if I can evolve her anyways. Because she evolves once and WHAT DOES HER EVOLUTION LOOK LIKE, SHE’S A GRASS TYPE AND I NEED TO KNOW.

(I had a dream a few nights ago that Espurr had a Grass-type Alolan Form and they were pink with a green leafy head, like a Hoppip. Didn’t catch one, sadly.)

Update – at last, Dug is level 21! Now I don’t have to worry about using him against Lana!! Let’s get there first, though, shall we? Someone just mentioned that there’s a Center near Brooklet Hill, which would save me a lot of time; I’ve been running back to Paniola to heal up.

Heckin’ look at this, guys! There’s a dude in the Center who’ll take my Lillipup for something called Bounsweet!

It’s purple and it’s a Grass-type. WELP, FOMANTIS IS GETTING KICKED OFF THE “ONLY HERE TO EVOLVE” SPOT

If you look closely at that cruddy screenshot, you will see me, taking the picture, forgetting to make sure I wasn’t reflecting on the screen. I am at peace with this. Bounsweet spiritually represents me. It was meant to be.

(Though its adamant nature DOES make me a little bit nervous. I am a calm Special attacker by nature!)

Continuing with the trend of things-that-aren’t-worth-screenshotting-but-I-should-mention-anyways, this one trainer has something called a Morelull. Whatever it is, it resists Dark-type, and it’s modeled after those creepy hypnotic fungi! It also avoided both of Dug’s Rock Throws, who I’d happened to decide to use for this battle, and knocked him out. Gosh dang it, Dug. Please stop dying.

I made it to Brooklet Hill, and look, it’s Lana! She’s so cute and shy-looking!

She wants me to follow her. I’ll do that after I fight thi – oh wait that fisherman killed Dug again, gotta go heal

I’ve been finding a ton of Water-types on my way through, but this one is probably the most notable – could this be the first new Water-type besides Popplio/Brionne, actually?! And it’s the first Water/Bug type since Surskit! This is reminding me a lot of Pokemon Uranium; that game also had a new trio of Fire-, Electric-, and Water/Bug Pokemon. This time around, we’ve got Dewpider and Charjabug, to name some.

Aaanyway, here we are! Lana looks more like a guy in this shot than Ilima ever did. (She’s talking about this mysterious swirly thing in the lake, by the way.)

yo what

yoooooo! Even if Lana’s making us do this, at least we get to Surf in style!

~*I am now inserting a brief intermission for all the time I wasted swimming with Lapras and fighting Trainers and reviving Dug again*~

OKAY OKAY LET’S GO SEE THE MYSTERIOUS SPLASHY THING.

It was…this!!! Look at its sad little face! Holy snap I’m naming this thing Sadness. I don’t care that he’s a guy, his name is Sadness, it’s perfect, it’s an inside joke, I’m doing this

PERFECT

OMG GUYS THE EGG I GOT FROM THE DAYCARE IS HATCHING AND I MISSED TAKING A SCREENSHOT OF IT BUT IT’S HERE NOW AND THE POKEMON IS AN…..oh.

Maaaaaaan it’s not newwwww

nah it’s cool guys, his name is tom, he’s pretty chill

I have reached the next Pokemon, and….it’s another Wishiwashi! It’s an even higher level than Sadness, so I’ll catch it too. You can never have enough Wishiwashi. NEVER.

…okay, like, I said that, but this wishiwashi has just called for help successfully four times in a row. no. FIVE TIMES. I WAS EXAGGERATING. STOP THIS

While I battle the sixth seventh eighth ally, please have a humorous screenshot of one of the things I’m multitasking with.

OKAY. The fish finally managed to knock out Silkie, so the original Wishi got knocked out, so I caught the second one – which was still male and level 18. That was. So many fish. I gotta heal.

how did she get past me

Rotom just asked the same thing, so I’ll just assume that she’s being a giant troll about the whole Wishiwashi splashy thing and fighting fourteen consecutive Wishis is just her master plan to have the worst trial ever. BRING IT.

uhhhhh sure okay

OH MAN, THINGS JUST GOT DIFFERENT, THE TRIAL JUST STARTED AND I MISSED THE “TRIAL START” SCREENCAP BUT I GOT THIS ONE AND THIS WORKS TOO RIGHT

TRIAL START. From the looks of things, I’m about to face off against Wishi’s EVOLUTION! LET’S SEE WHAT YOU GOT, SADFISH

lapras nooooo

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE

HOW’S FRIGGIN KOIZILLA SOUND FOR A NAME FOR THIS THING

And up in rotation to fight it is Tulip. She’s got type and level advantage, but it’s still raining, so this isn’t gonna be easy…

It can call Alomomola for an ally? WHYYY

IT KNOWS HEAL PULSE WHYYYYYY

It’s okay, it’s fine, we’re whittling them down. Tulip isn’t too badly hurt because she’s avoided moves and gotten critical hits with her affection, but Wishiwashi has gotten defense boosts, Growl has lowered Tulip’s Attack, and I think Soak got rid of Grass STAB, to top it all off. But she’s using Razor Leaf, which hurts both other Pokemon at once!

ALOMOMOLA IS DOWN.

NOW THERE’S A TINY WISHIWASHI. DFGJKL;

Here’s the situation now! I’m Charging up with Silkie a bunch (and healing) so that she can tank Water guns and take out Big Wishi with Spark. If that fails, we’re going back to Tulip, whose Razor Leaf was doing fine until the Growls stacked up.

Three Charges should be enough….Spark time! *whole game is electrocuted, dies* no, actually, this is working. ONE MORE SHOULD DO IT-!

crud no it wasn’t. ONE MORE.

Oh, thank goodness – Schooling is deactivated!! I’m facing two (relatively) normal Wishis now! Heck, I’m switching back to Tdonulip for this!

THAT’S IT! We did it!! Excellent work, guys – that was TENSE!

don’t you act all innocent, lana

IT IS DONE.

Oh, sweet! Now I can catch – there was that guy in the Center who wanted a Feebas, I guess! After the liveblog’s over, I can stay late and do some fishing.

Good lord, look at her face. she’s so SMUG

wait, was she trolling me again. LANAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Yes, please! There’s a closer spot than here I can fish at.

Hey, there’s some useful info! Sounds to me like we’re gonna be finding some…Fire-types!!!!!!!! vulpix vulpix vulpix

And that’s where I’m ending the blog for the night. This has been my longest blogging session to date; the making of this post has taken around six hours, partially due to some breaks for dinner and transport. But what a ride!!! Oh man, that Wishiwashi fight was awesome. And we met some cool new people, and a cool new villain, and some cool new Pokemon, and a fish that is Sadness from Inside Out incarnate….!!! I LOVE IT!!!

As for the potential new team members – what I’m aiming for right now are some Pokemon to balance out my team. I’m actually very nitpicky about my team members, but what I’m looking for are: two more males and a female (since I’ve got two females and a male right now), two to three Special Attackers (since I’ve got three physical attackers now, and we’ve all seen in the case of Mudbray w/Stamina what not having a wide range can do to you), and three Pokemon that don’t share a type with Tules, Silkie, and Dug. Water is almost certainly going to be one of these types, so that’s why Sadness the Wishiwashi, who fits all of these qualities, is looking like a pretty viable member of the team! I haven’t even seen Pyukumuku yet, though, and so while I’ll play around with training up Sadness, he’s not a solidified team member yet.

So, anyways, I’ll see you all in the next installment! Thanks for reading!

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {8}

Hello, friends! It’s me and I’m BACK! Man, it sure is late. Really, really late. I wonder what the most responsible thing for me to do right now would be…?

SO LAST TIME I got a not-gym-badge and made my way over here, and now I’ve gotta find the Marina and get over to the next island – which I think I remember was named Akala? I’d better start training Dug the Rockruff up on the way.

…she’s experienced?

NO TIME FOR JOKES, we’re on a boat ride! I took screenshots of pretty much everything because it looked so PRETTY and yet, it didn’t stop. I realized I probably should have closed my Nintendo in between shots so I could upload the pictures but eh, it’s just a transition scene?? And why would I want to interrupt this beautiful scenario???

This was my favorite part, though. Hau is just jealous.

We have officially made it to Akala, and there’s some Castelia City-ish music going on!

i uh

okay no hau it wasn’t that funny i just had to use something to let the audience know we were done with the boat ride

…And he just ignores me and moves on to the Professor, and Kukui just says “The land is certainly ahoy, oh boy” and the music completely stops???

Lillie looks so OFFENDED

NEW FRIENDS!!!!

Olivia and Mallow! Mallow has a flower in her hair like a Grass-type person and I love her immediately (she’s a captain!)

And a chef?

yeah she’s a chef. (way to make it not obvious)

And then they leave! THAT WASN’T AWKWARD!

Kukui tells up that we have THREE trials on this island, meaning that by the time the next island rolls around, we’ll already have completed half of them…? That seems fast! I guess I’ll just head on out to Paniola and look at all the things on the way there.

I’m gonna make a list in advance. STUFF I FOUND IN HEAHEA CITY:

-An absolutely stunning tourist face board. Leah is now a lady in a bikini with a Bellossom.

-The Name Rater! Mark that down!

-Lillie, who told me about Tapu Lele and then had an a silent angry-face fight with Nebby over getting him back in the bag (the facial sprite are NOT QUITE ADVANCED ENOUGH to do this without it being pretty odd). I have to meet her at a hotel, but yeah yeah later

-A guy who wants me to get him a Pyukumuku. Will do, mister!

-A clothes shop in which I blew half my money (I found out that you can get glasses in this game, but I decided to leave them off Leah because, well, they didn’t suit her at all!!)

Wh – oh my god. Sina and Dexio???

I KNEW IT!! I REMEMBER THESE GUYS FROM X&Y!! THEY WERE TOTALLY WEIRD AND POINTLESS AND I DIDN’T LIKE THEM!

I, uh, guess I’m battling Sina now…that’s something I never did before, so that’s actually pretty great!

Her first Pokemon was a Delibird, which Dug took out on his own even though it was four levels higher because it was, well, a Delibird. Then she had a Glaceon, which knocked him out…luckily, Silkie was there to protect us!

Dexio just gave us the Zygarde Cube. HEY THANKS THAT’S NICE TO HAVE

My way to the rest of the city is blocked off by a guy on a Stoutland (!!!!), so I guess I’ll go stop by the hotel. After training Dug up a bit and catching some things, I mean! I won’t go farther into Route 4 than the first grass block!

Wow, would you look at this thing! I guess…I guess I’ll just name her Donkey? He’s a pretty iconic cartoon, isn’t he? (Her ability is ‘stamina,’ raising Defense every time it got physically hit, which is REALLY ANNOYING)

Oh, well….Lillie says the person she wanted to meet isn’t showing up, so I guess we’re not having this subplot right now. BACK TO ROUTE 4!

Dug is sorely missing a Rock-type move, but I’m having fun battling with him. I tested out the Normalium with him, and you’ll have to forgive me if I run out of liveblog time while petting him in Pokemon Refresh. (HE’S SO HUGGABLE)

I, um…there’s also this new mechanic! I missed seeing more Zygarde in Gen 6, to be honest. It’s pretty interesting that we actually have to collect bits of a Pokemon until we have enough to get a really strong one.

Update: Dug now has Rock Throw. He will be UNSTOPPABLE.

Hey, it’s Paniola Town!

Hey, it’s Hau!

oh i guess he’s battling us. cool alright

Hau still has two Pokemon, the SCRUB. Except Pikachu beat Dug because it survived my Breakneck Blitz with one HP, which is incredibly aggravating and I want to run it over with a bus and it’s a good thing I have a bus Pokemon now.

Look at this! Brionne, huh?? From what I’ve heard, I was expecting a lot worse for Popplio’s next design, but this isn’t really bad at all. It’s feminine and pretty cute!

Let’s run it over too.

YAY I WIN. And off goes Hau to find the Ranch.

And, once I heal up at the Center, that’s actually where I’m gonna end the episode! Bit of a short one today, but while I’m out, I’m going to level up Dug. Both Tulip and Silkie are at level 21, and as Dug is only at level 16, he’s got some leveling up to do! I might only train him to 18 or so, though…just enough for him to comfortably hold his own against other Pokemon, but I’ll be able to get the last few levels during the next liveblog, when there’s plot stuff happening.

And, of course, if Dug evolves, I’ll either edit it in or let you all know right away in the next blog.

So then! I’ll see you next time for the exciting continuation of Akala Island!

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {6}

Another liveblog?! I must be on a roll! Hey all, MissMash here, and last time we left offffff

RIGHT HERE. Now, I did noodle around in the game a bit while I was waiting for WordPress to get its crud together, but all I did was play with Tulip and Silkie some more in Pokemon Refresh. They love me so much. My army will be unstoppable.

Hey, before I get tired of taking screenshots every four seconds, let’s take a look at my current party:

The naming theme of everybody being some animated character has not yet been broken. BUT WE DON’T HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THAT, because I think it’s time to go talk to Captain Ilima! I like him! He’s cool!!! Even though I keep forgetting his name!!!! vv n  vnvnnnvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvggggggggggggggg

I won’t be able to leave til the trial is over? Flashbacks to Pokemon Ranger nahhh, it’s cool. I’ve got a grass owl and a buggy bug. Surely Verdant Caverns won’t have any Fire- or Flying-types in it!

omg verdant caverns sounds like a grass name what if ilima is secretly a grass gym leader

I N W E G O

YES THANK YOU IT’S SO PRETTY

“Allow me to explain the basics of my trial.” Good, because no one actually has so far. My guess is a kind of puzzle?

OH I HAVE TO BATTLE SOME ALOLAN RATTATAS. Except…I accidentally pressed the screen when I was taking the picture so I have no screenshot of it. Whoops, moving on!

yooooooo do I get to keep it. do raticate get a special move

????!?

He says there’s a super tough Totem Pokemon somewhere in here! OH NO!

We can’t catch those Alolan Rattata? Aww. Well, you bet I’ll stick around afterwards and see what I find! (speaking of which, i see that tm behind you, ilima, it’s so obvious)

“This is but one of the seven trials you will face during your island challenge.” Okay, I was hazy on the numbers before, but this confirms that this game won’t have the regular old eight gym badges to collect. THIS IS ALL NEW TERRITORY. I’M SCARED.

AND IT BEGINS! Let’s get to it!

Oh, well, that TM’s up on a ledge, so I’ll get back to it. In the meantime:

i wonder what it could beeeee

As I was battling, I tested out my Rowlet’s Astonish, and it looks like Alolan Rattata still keeps its Normal typing! In any case, the battle didn’t last long after that.

Ooh, I found a Revive in a rock! I’d better go to that den to find the second ratATTA OMG IT JUST RUSHED AT ME WHY

I defeated it! Tulip should level up n –

why

sigghhhhh okay she’s in the yellow now from a Super Fang, but I think Tulip can tough out one more battle, and then I can switch to Silkie to keep the levels even.

OOH! THE TM WAS BRICK BREAK. THIS IS VERY USEFUL.

So I’m wandering around, and this place is a little more mazelike than I originally thought. The cloud of dust where Rattata is keeps moving, and I don’t see a ready way to track it. There might be more to this trial than I thought…

OH GOD NOT YOU AGAIN

Do I remember them? I’m saying “Sorry, who are you” because pounding them into the ground with a bird is not going to be cathartic enough.

file under: reaction image

OH NO, HE AGGRESSIVELY RAPPED TOWARDS ME…And it’s battle time!

Well, that was easy! At least Tulip got her two EXP. And now they leave. That sure did happen.

GOD I KNOW, DON’T JUMPSCARE ME LIKE THAT

…Okay, now I can keep going. But I can still see one of the Grunts back there. He’s still…he’s still going.

OH! I get it. They’re blocking off some of the dens, so there’s only one place for the Rattata to be now!

…..that’s no rattata, we have ACHIEVED RATICATE, FOLKS (I THINK I SAW THIS IN THE OPENING VIDEO)

And yooo Bug Bite was super effective! I guess it’s a Normal/Dark type!

I am now moving on to the Z-Crystal. RattataQuest is complete!

………..oh snap guys the music cut out

OH SNAP it’s….a raticate? i just…fought one of these?

OH SNAP GUYS AT LEAST IT’S A MAGIC RATICATE! Both my Pokemon are physical attackers, so a Defense rise will be a toughie, but Bug Bite should be okay!

Oh man, this thing is huge compared to Grubbin. BUT LOOK THE RATICATE JUST CALLED AN ALLY, THAT WAS PRETTY COOL

Bug Bite took care of the Rattata right away and this Totem Cate is gonna faint in one more hit, but…I wonder if I can sit here and see if Raticate calls more Pokemon? It’d be kinda cool to farm EXP from it, after all.

Nah, I’ve got a liveblog schedule to keep. Silkie almost just got knocked out, though – that Bite left her with just four HP o-o;;

But we did it!

o h HECK YES

And hey, it’s Ilima! I hope he chased out those Team Skull weirdos.

Not…really? It was just level 12, man, and it kind of got defeated by a Grubbin…

TRIAL COMPLETE!

Normalium Z, eh? Exposition me, Captain!

i am getting serious dork vibes from him. help me

So Crystals do indeed strengthen a move, but this one’s for a move of a certain type! Man, imagine taking a Normalium Z-alized Giga Impact from a Slaking. Not pretty. Do they all turn to Pulvurizing Pancake, though, like what Snorlax’s signature move thing was called?

Thank you for your Great Balls, Captain Ilima. And he healed me! Yay!

He wants me to go to Route 3 to see something, but I think I’m gonna stick out and find those Rattata, first. There’s a huge breakable rock in the corner – note to self, come back with Rock Smash.

(An interlude – I just battled and caught a Diglett, and its Alolan ability is…Tangling Hair? And now it’s a Ground/Steel type?? Rapunzel it is!)

And we’re out! I now have a Zubat, Diglett, and fancy Rattata. I looked a bit for a Raticate, but then Silkie fainted so I figured I’d get out of there.

Meanwhile. Ilima. Why are you being so formal. WE WERE LITERALLY JUST TALKING

Hey, it’s another familiar face!

I just got a little Z-Power diagram – but woah, the professor’s busting out the pokemon-catching tutorial too.

Pretty cool! I would not want to be on the end of that.

Apparently, Kukui lost Lillie somewhere in Route 3. Don’t worry, not-actually-my-cousin-because-I’m-pretty-sure-that’s-just-a-Hawaiian-term-of-familiarity-that-I-misinterpreted-horribly! I’ll go find her for you!

After I take a break, that is. I’m ending the blog here! We passed a pretty good milestone today – first trial complete! We also found out more about Alolan Forms and Z-Crystals and had another, uh, run-in with Team Skull. Those same two grunts are the only things I’ve seen so far of Team Skull. But those people harassing Lillie in the beginning were wearing white, weren’t they? Interesting…

I put all the Pokemon I caught back into the PC Box, so my team of two is starting to feel a little lonely. I daresay it’s time to start looking for another partner on Route 3! Who knows, maybe we’ll have a new friend next time!

See you soon,

~*MissMash*~

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {5}

WOW GUESS WHO’S BACK! AGAIN! That’s right, it’s MissMash! Last year, we left off:

here, all primed and ready to explore Hau’uli  Hau’oli City. Right, you’ll have to forgive me if I don’t remember names quite as well as before. It’s been a month since the last one! :/ I am an avid liveblog follower and I hate it when something like that breaks me out of the zone, especially if they’re being read all in a row in the distant future. (Oh god what if I don’t finish the game by the time Gen 8 comes out). So I’ll try and keep mixups to a minimum.

I guess that means I’d better get started, then!

Right off the bat we get some pretty beach graphics and scenic panoramas and girls in bikinis~ SHIELD YOUR EYES HAU~

It’s a little early for me to be attracting attention from strangers

oh gee i wonder COULD IT BE ‘ALOLA’

…I WAS RIGHT

can…can we walk around now? oh thank goodness we can

Ah, now here’s a name I haven’t come across yet! Pyukumuku sounds neato. A Water-type squishy sea anemone thing is my guess. (I don’t have a Water-type yet. I’M SO EXCITED TO BUILD MY TEAM.)

More exploring reveals that, oddly, you can’t interrupt Hau’s beach party time, so I’m moving on to explore more of the city. Discoveries made: My Rotomdex wiggles around when you poke it. And there’s clearly some fun places to Surf to over the ocean, but I don’t have a Pokemon to do that yet!

Also, THERE IS A PICKUP TRUCK JUST SITTING THERE BY THE BEACH. PEOPLE IN THE POKEVERSE DRIVE TRUCKS CONFIRMED. FANFICTION CHANGED FOREVER.

We are now in the shopping center. Sounds dangerous.

Hau just interrupted me. NO HAU, LEAVE ME TO MY SHOPPING oh wait he took me into the store anyways

ghjkl;’ what do you mean i can take photos of pokemon now ARE WE IN POKEMON SNAP

Well, anyways, Poke Finder sounds pretty cool! I bummed around the shop, got some Ultra Balls from a guy, and drew a Lotto Ticket before moving on again.

Rotom just came out to take a picture of Hau, Lillie, and me and I MISSED SCREENSHOTTING IT NOOO

But…who could be saying this?!

I’d say this was ominous if not for the chirpy music in the background.

Ahh, no, it’s just the Poke Finder tutorial guy. Look at me taking pictures of taking pictures! SO META!

With the new Thumbs Up mechanic, it appears that Pokemon  has finally become social media. Welp, back to exploring.

Customization! IT’S HAPENING

I just got the Lens Case and Makeup Case – would be really cool if the guys got makeup too! – and a lady outside gave me a Silk Scarf! WHICH I PUT ON SILKIE IMMEDIATELY.

And here’s my new look! The hat clashed too badly with the purple – and I think it looks kind of weird and May-esque, anyways – so I took it off. I would’ve bought another one but I would’ve had to shell out ALMOST EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS, WHAT THE HECK.

AHHHHH THERE’S A SALON NEXT DOOR. Strap in, guys, because I am saving my game and not leaving til I find a style I like. Why does this game’s customization already feel so much more expansive than X&Y???

And this looks good to me! I sure am glad Leah shares none of my fears and objections to hair dye.

…We haven’t actually gone or done anything important this episode, have we? OKAY, I’M GOING TO MOVE ON AND ASSUME YOU GUYS HAVE ALL PLAYED THE GAME AND DON’T CARE ABOUT THE MINUTE DETAILS OF EVERY INCH OF HAU’OLI CITY

Things Of Interest in the Hau’oli Shopping District:

-A heal ball

-The Move Deleter

-Hau’oli Cemetery??? When do I go there?????

-The cafe guy gave me a Rare Candy and a Casteliacone!

-FIRST MENTION OF THE VILLAIN TEAM (WHOSE NAME I WAS SPOILED ON):

Okay, no, wait, let’s talk about Team Skull for a sec. I Do Not Like Their Name. For one thing, sure, it’s a little unoriginal. But a FAR more important reason is:

teamskull

Pokemon already had a Team Skull!!! From Pokemon Explorers of Sky!!! And that game was awesome and they can’t just rip the name like it didn’t exist before, you know??? Like, did you know ORAS was NOT the first game where you could fly on a Lati@s? The third Ranger game was! That game was so good!

Okay, rant aside, looking up that image even without using any ‘team skull’ keywords caused a bunch of pictures of who was probably the team leader to pop up and no no no no no no SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

hey look a mansion

Woah, uh, walking into this place actually felt really invasive, like the concept of “i’m not supposed to come into this stranger’s fancy house uninvited” was actually a thing.

Apparently, this is Captain Ilima’s house! I thought he was a girl. Oops.

Speaking of which: I left the shopping district and entered the Marina, and hey, I ran into the guy!

?!?! And could I have run into PLOT as well?!?

oh god

….wait, what, their theme song was some sort of heavy metal rap and then Ilima just started speaking and brought the cheerful Hau’oli theme back.

And the theme’s back. OKAY, YOU TWO NEED TO STOP, IMMEDIATELY. (this picture comes with a free meta glimpse into wordpress)

AND IT’S TIME FOR BATTLE! Okay, I’ll say this: their battle intro – the black paint thing – and their battling music is pretty sick. But still. Y’all’re edgesters.

He had a Zubat and my bug defeated him in like three seconds, but this encounter made me appreciate Ilima a lot more. Look at how cute he’s being!

Smeargle, yeah? I saw the signs around town.

Oh, wait, like, by now, he meant NOW now. Okay then!

He has…a Yungoos! yaaaaaay

By the way, both Silkie and Tulip’s affection are up to 3 hearts, so at the beginning of battles they’re awaiting my instructions and reminiscing about our lives together. So cute!

The Smeargle’s up, so I’m switching to Tulip cause I haven’t used her in a while! And I’ve got a feeling about this Smeargle…hmm…

Oh, no. Dang, I was guessing it’d be an Alolan form??

Well, it matters not, because I managed to beat him! It was close, actually, because Smeargle knew Ember, and on one of my turns I was trying to type with one hand and clicked Astonish by accident. But two Leafages was enough to do it.

Away Ilima goes to Verdant Cavern, and I’d better go to Route 2 to catch up with him for the REAL trial! Though maybe I should stop for the night…NAHHHH ROTOM’S TELLING ME TO KEEP GOING LET’S GO

Lillie stopped to wish me well on the way there. I am feeling…I am feeling the warm fuzzies in this game right now. aaaaaaaahhhhhgh.

Route 2 time  – and would you look at that, there’s shaking grass in this game! A Makuhita? WHY NOT

That’s all taken care of!

Okay, this is interesting – in Route 2, I came across a house in which a boy ran away from home to go on a Pokemon journey. This is really detailed, so – who, I wonder? Will or have we met him?

I went along further and a Delibird led me to Team Skull plot, wow! And now I have berries.

And then I backtracked to visit the Hau’oli Cemetery. This is, uh…quite the casual way to introduce a cemetery to us, I guess. Wow.

I did find a Drifloon, though!! Named him Peedee! Now I can complete a sidequest for this one girl in the city who wanted one! (She gave me 10,000 Poke. Cool.)

NEW ALOLA FORM DISCOVERED: Diglett has a weird little tuft on its head. That’s another single-type Generation One Pokemon with no Mega who got a special form…

Okay, I’ve explored the cemetery quite a lot, so I’m back on the track to Verdant Cave. Not much there. Maybe it’s different in the cemetery at night.

Look at this little doot, though! Found a new Pokemon! Her name is Bessie (from The Mighty B, even though I never watched that show), although…you, uh, remember Beautifly, right? Cutiefly, Beautifly….those are pretty similar names…?

At least Bug/Fairy is a neat combo.

would like to inform: a random trainer just sent a misdreavus out. would like to inform: I LOVE MISDREAVUS SO MUCH

well, uhh…this is an interesting design?? I found this Crabrawler randomly in a berry pile…okay then!

Having explored every inch of this goshdarn giant route and caught a whole bunch of Pokemon – Growlithe, Crabrawler, Spearow, Smeargle, Drowzee, Cutiefly, even more! – I think that’s a good place to stop for the night! That’s right, at the entrance to Verdant Cavern! That means we can start right off with our first trial and not worry about all this exploring! Because I can’t stop. help me

I love the Alola region in itself, and I feel a great kinship beginning with Hau and Lillie! I wonder if they’ll get any sort of development later on…? I HOPE SO! And, uh, also Team Skull happened.

Team stats: Tulip the Rowlet and Silkie the Grubbin, both level 15. Braced for imminent evolution from either one of them. A third Pokemon still hasn’t caught my eye.

I will see you all next time!
