Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {8}

Hello, friends! It’s me and I’m BACK! Man, it sure is late. Really, really late. I wonder what the most responsible thing for me to do right now would be…?

SO LAST TIME I got a not-gym-badge and made my way over here, and now I’ve gotta find the Marina and get over to the next island – which I think I remember was named Akala? I’d better start training Dug the Rockruff up on the way.

…she’s experienced?

NO TIME FOR JOKES, we’re on a boat ride! I took screenshots of pretty much everything because it looked so PRETTY and yet, it didn’t stop. I realized I probably should have closed my Nintendo in between shots so I could upload the pictures but eh, it’s just a transition scene?? And why would I want to interrupt this beautiful scenario???

This was my favorite part, though. Hau is just jealous.

We have officially made it to Akala, and there’s some Castelia City-ish music going on!

i uh

okay no hau it wasn’t that funny i just had to use something to let the audience know we were done with the boat ride

…And he just ignores me and moves on to the Professor, and Kukui just says “The land is certainly ahoy, oh boy” and the music completely stops???

Lillie looks so OFFENDED

NEW FRIENDS!!!!

Olivia and Mallow! Mallow has a flower in her hair like a Grass-type person and I love her immediately (she’s a captain!)

And a chef?

yeah she’s a chef. (way to make it not obvious)

And then they leave! THAT WASN’T AWKWARD!

Kukui tells up that we have THREE trials on this island, meaning that by the time the next island rolls around, we’ll already have completed half of them…? That seems fast! I guess I’ll just head on out to Paniola and look at all the things on the way there.

I’m gonna make a list in advance. STUFF I FOUND IN HEAHEA CITY:

-An absolutely stunning tourist face board. Leah is now a lady in a bikini with a Bellossom.

-The Name Rater! Mark that down!

-Lillie, who told me about Tapu Lele and then had an a silent angry-face fight with Nebby over getting him back in the bag (the facial sprite are NOT QUITE ADVANCED ENOUGH to do this without it being pretty odd). I have to meet her at a hotel, but yeah yeah later

-A guy who wants me to get him a Pyukumuku. Will do, mister!

-A clothes shop in which I blew half my money (I found out that you can get glasses in this game, but I decided to leave them off Leah because, well, they didn’t suit her at all!!)

Wh – oh my god. Sina and Dexio???

I KNEW IT!! I REMEMBER THESE GUYS FROM X&Y!! THEY WERE TOTALLY WEIRD AND POINTLESS AND I DIDN’T LIKE THEM!

I, uh, guess I’m battling Sina now…that’s something I never did before, so that’s actually pretty great!

Her first Pokemon was a Delibird, which Dug took out on his own even though it was four levels higher because it was, well, a Delibird. Then she had a Glaceon, which knocked him out…luckily, Silkie was there to protect us!

Dexio just gave us the Zygarde Cube. HEY THANKS THAT’S NICE TO HAVE

My way to the rest of the city is blocked off by a guy on a Stoutland (!!!!), so I guess I’ll go stop by the hotel. After training Dug up a bit and catching some things, I mean! I won’t go farther into Route 4 than the first grass block!

Wow, would you look at this thing! I guess…I guess I’ll just name her Donkey? He’s a pretty iconic cartoon, isn’t he? (Her ability is ‘stamina,’ raising Defense every time it got physically hit, which is REALLY ANNOYING)

Oh, well….Lillie says the person she wanted to meet isn’t showing up, so I guess we’re not having this subplot right now. BACK TO ROUTE 4!

Dug is sorely missing a Rock-type move, but I’m having fun battling with him. I tested out the Normalium with him, and you’ll have to forgive me if I run out of liveblog time while petting him in Pokemon Refresh. (HE’S SO HUGGABLE)

I, um…there’s also this new mechanic! I missed seeing more Zygarde in Gen 6, to be honest. It’s pretty interesting that we actually have to collect bits of a Pokemon until we have enough to get a really strong one.

Update: Dug now has Rock Throw. He will be UNSTOPPABLE.

Hey, it’s Paniola Town!

Hey, it’s Hau!

oh i guess he’s battling us. cool alright

Hau still has two Pokemon, the SCRUB. Except Pikachu beat Dug because it survived my Breakneck Blitz with one HP, which is incredibly aggravating and I want to run it over with a bus and it’s a good thing I have a bus Pokemon now.

Look at this! Brionne, huh?? From what I’ve heard, I was expecting a lot worse for Popplio’s next design, but this isn’t really bad at all. It’s feminine and pretty cute!

Let’s run it over too.

YAY I WIN. And off goes Hau to find the Ranch.

And, once I heal up at the Center, that’s actually where I’m gonna end the episode! Bit of a short one today, but while I’m out, I’m going to level up Dug. Both Tulip and Silkie are at level 21, and as Dug is only at level 16, he’s got some leveling up to do! I might only train him to 18 or so, though…just enough for him to comfortably hold his own against other Pokemon, but I’ll be able to get the last few levels during the next liveblog, when there’s plot stuff happening.

And, of course, if Dug evolves, I’ll either edit it in or let you all know right away in the next blog.

So then! I’ll see you next time for the exciting continuation of Akala Island!

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {7}

Oh snap it’s me and it’s a liveblog and I’m back!! Hey, everyone! Today, I failed at a lot of things, such as art and time management. So what could I do that I haven’t proven myself a failure at yet? That’s right, play Pokemon!!!

Last time, Leah left off at the entrance to Route 3, having beaten I  – Ilima?? Gosh I love him but I can’t remember his name – at our very first island challenge. Silkie beat up a magical Raticate. That was pretty cool.

Let’s roll out!

Route 3 seems to be on a cliff by the ocean, which is lovely! I found a flying shadow, checked it out, and found:

yaaaaay (i hate this pokemon)

I named her Ludo and went back to the Pokemon Center to heal! Or rather, I will go to the Center when I’m done typing. Whoops, getting ahead of myself in these “live”blogs here.

There’s kind of a split path in this here route, but the good news is I explored the higher one and found a Sharp Beak for Tulip! Peck is gonna do MASSIVE damage wait no it still didn’t ko a spearow

…hey, I just got a second one from that Spearow?? Did it drop its beak when I beat it?

Here’s the first patch of grass! I know we’re supposed to be looking for Lillie, but pfffff she can wait while I run around in here for half an hour

Pokemon Count:

-Spearow (x3)

-Cutiefly (x2) BUT THEN

ASDFGHJKL;’DFGH GUYS LOOK LOOK LOOK TULIP IS LEVEL 17 AND SHE IS EVOLVING

FORGET THE SCREENSHOTS I AM VIDEO RECORDING MY CHILD

(Better turn up the volume so you can hear this A+ sound quality! Also, I say ‘aynimay’ at the end on accident and I deeply regret this)
DARTRIX GET

This is so cool!! Look at her little bangs! I gotta see what type she is!

…grass/flying. THAT’S FINE I DON’T CARE (where are my ice counters)

SHE THROWS BLADE QUILLS AND SHE’S A NINJA

That was fun!! Who needs grass patches??? LET’S KEEP GOING!!!!

asdfghjkl; the first Trainer I’m battling with Dartrix has a PETILIL, WHICH EVOLVES INTO LILLIGANT, WHICH IS PRETTY MUCH MY FAVORITE GRASS-TYPE AHHHGH

Man, that Sharp Beak came with really good timing! I didn’t actually one-shot this Petilil but, y’know, I came close!!

Look who I found! Oh man, this place is lovely, and I like the music. I’m not surprised Nebby’s run off in here. And the side outside this place said ‘Where the Oricorio dance’…catch one, maybe?

Lillie is just kind of letting me run off and get Nebby for her. But she healed me, so hey it’s all good

lOOK WHO I FOUND

HER NAME IS CHARLOTTE AFTER THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG CHARACTER

And now look – an Oricorio! At first I thought it was the evolution of Cutiefly, but after seeing its typing – Electric/Flying – that’s not the case. Interesting…

Well, after some more extensive wandering, the only other two Pokemon I’ve found are Caterpie and Cutiefly – so I won’t be getting any more new ones at the moment. And the encounter rate here is insane, good lord

Nebby has been returned safe and sound! I was kind of expecting to have to chase her around. But no. Nebby is the pinnacle of obedience.

IMPORTANT LILLIE INFO DROP! Oricorio have form changes!! I THOUGHT it was interesting that they looked just like Melemele Meadow! And they don’t evolve, either…I wonder if they change their typing!!

The power trio is BACK AT IT

And!! Looks like we’re battling!!

…You know what I just realized? Hau reminds me of Minami.minami

Okay, Dartrix vs Pikachu, go! It uses Electro Ball, which would be worrisome except for the fact that I’M GRASS/FLYING, SO I’M NOT WEAK TO ELECTRIC, HECK YEAH

Pikachu and Popplio (your starter hasn’t evolved yet? get on my level) are both taken out with a bunch of Razor Leaf! Looks like we did it, folks!

Kukui just showed up and told us about the grand trial, woo, fun fun yeah I’m gonna look around some more you guys just go ahead

Man, if there’s only thing I sorely miss in this game, it’s the part of the DexNav from ORAS that let you see when you’d caught all possible Pokemon in a route. I ran around for fifteen or twenty minutes, and the only new thing I caught was a Mankey, but that doesn’t feel like all, you know? How many one-percenters am I missing?

AHA! I FOUND A METAPOD IN MELEMELE MEADOW

Oh!! And I got a critical capture on that Metapod, too – nice! In honor, I will name it Chris, after…uh…that host from Total Drama Island? Yeah, sure!

About time I made it here!! There’s still a few things I want to search around in Route 3 for – a guy is gonna give me a Red Card, and I need to find a Rockruff on Ten Carat Hill, which I actually don’t know if I’ve seen? But right now, I think it’s Hala time!

Hala is a Fighting-type Trainer! COME AT ME DUDE I HAVE A BIRD AND A POTATO

this music guys

HYPE FACTOR IMMINENT

In the time this picture took to load, I defeated his Mankey and have almost defeated his Makuhita – there goes a Super Potion! Okay, not it’s down. What’s his third? I GUESS CRABRAWLER

AW YEAH I WAS RIGHT

Take it down, Silkie!

Looks like getting Acrobatics paid off! WE’VE DONE IT!

and now for the most important part

(tules is now at five hearts of affection and this amount of unconditional love is starting to scare me)

GRAND TRIAL COMPLETE! FIGHTINIUM GET!

wait, uh, what

WAIT,,,, UH,,,,,,,,,,,

OH WELL THIS IS PRETTY SICK I GUESS I’M ON A TAURUS NOW

HAU COME ON CALM DOWN

Okay, I think Ilima’s my favorite character in the game so far and I absolutely cannot explain why

it’s just that my heart did a little skippy thing when he randomly appeared again because he’s so gosh darn cute and oh shoot no it’s happening again

HE WANTS TO BATTLE AGAIN, I’M OKAY WITH THAT

ALSO HALA JUST SAID THAT TAURUS CAN SMASH THROUGH ROCKS AND OMG FINALLY THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY CUT-OFF PLACES

OMG IS THE RIDE PAGER THE REPLACEMENT FOR HMS IN THIS GAME???? REJOICE, FOR OUR PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED

I just confirmed with Lillie that I’ll help travel with her to the next island – and now the others want me to visit my mom, why not! I’m gonna ride Taurus there, and judging by the Ride Pager screen, there’ll be plenty more ridable Pokemon in the future!!! :O

Right, so – I think the last place I’ll go for the night is Ten Carat Hill. I might take a lap around Melemele before I find my way to the next one – Akala, according to Mom – but I definitely want to try and find all the secrets I can!

We made it to the Farthest Hollow!

HHFKSDFKL IT’S HAPENING AGAIN

Okay, two things: one, I think video reactions will have to be a once-a-night thing…it’s really late here, and Silkie is, sadly, not my starter, so I guess her evolution isn’t quite as momentous?? I still love her, though! But secondly, and more importantly:

why is she a bus

i’m glad she’ll evolve one more time but why is silkie shaped like a bus

at level 20, magikarp evolves into a giant sea dragon. grubbin evolves into a bus

WHY

I’M PLAYING WITH A TINY BUS IN POKEMON REFRESH AND I THINK I HEARD HER HONKING AT ME????

Okay okay don’t I have a Rockruff to find or something

(SHE STILL KNOWS ACROBATICS, BUT, HOW)

Well, that’s taken care of! Why are there so few animated female dogs?? I almost named her Dug, but I think Winona also fits pretty well. And I’m not saying she’s a team member right now, but I am gonna play around with training her up as I go along. It’s been a while since I’ve used a Rock-type on my team. And she’s a really cute one!

OH!!!!! I actually went back to catch a second one, a male, since I realized I would have three females on my team otherwise, and this one was caught with a critical capture! I really am catching a lot of Pokemon. Looks like Dug is something special!

And here I am again! I just took a lap around the whole island and sought out a few of the places I’ve seen smashable rocks before – like inside Verdant Cavern, and that place towards the very end of Route 3.

On my way I found Hau just kind of hanging out here, so I think this is where we’ll end off. Tomorrow I’ll visit the Marina, and we’ll make our way to the next island! My current team:

Two evolutions in one liveblog…great milestone today, folks!

And now I have a bus.

I’m not mad, Pokemon…I’m just confused.

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {6}

Another liveblog?! I must be on a roll! Hey all, MissMash here, and last time we left offffff

RIGHT HERE. Now, I did noodle around in the game a bit while I was waiting for WordPress to get its crud together, but all I did was play with Tulip and Silkie some more in Pokemon Refresh. They love me so much. My army will be unstoppable.

Hey, before I get tired of taking screenshots every four seconds, let’s take a look at my current party:

The naming theme of everybody being some animated character has not yet been broken. BUT WE DON’T HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THAT, because I think it’s time to go talk to Captain Ilima! I like him! He’s cool!!! Even though I keep forgetting his name!!!! vv n  vnvnnnvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvggggggggggggggg

I won’t be able to leave til the trial is over? Flashbacks to Pokemon Ranger nahhh, it’s cool. I’ve got a grass owl and a buggy bug. Surely Verdant Caverns won’t have any Fire- or Flying-types in it!

omg verdant caverns sounds like a grass name what if ilima is secretly a grass gym leader

I N W E G O

YES THANK YOU IT’S SO PRETTY

“Allow me to explain the basics of my trial.” Good, because no one actually has so far. My guess is a kind of puzzle?

OH I HAVE TO BATTLE SOME ALOLAN RATTATAS. Except…I accidentally pressed the screen when I was taking the picture so I have no screenshot of it. Whoops, moving on!

yooooooo do I get to keep it. do raticate get a special move

????!?

He says there’s a super tough Totem Pokemon somewhere in here! OH NO!

We can’t catch those Alolan Rattata? Aww. Well, you bet I’ll stick around afterwards and see what I find! (speaking of which, i see that tm behind you, ilima, it’s so obvious)

“This is but one of the seven trials you will face during your island challenge.” Okay, I was hazy on the numbers before, but this confirms that this game won’t have the regular old eight gym badges to collect. THIS IS ALL NEW TERRITORY. I’M SCARED.

AND IT BEGINS! Let’s get to it!

Oh, well, that TM’s up on a ledge, so I’ll get back to it. In the meantime:

i wonder what it could beeeee

As I was battling, I tested out my Rowlet’s Astonish, and it looks like Alolan Rattata still keeps its Normal typing! In any case, the battle didn’t last long after that.

Ooh, I found a Revive in a rock! I’d better go to that den to find the second ratATTA OMG IT JUST RUSHED AT ME WHY

I defeated it! Tulip should level up n –

why

sigghhhhh okay she’s in the yellow now from a Super Fang, but I think Tulip can tough out one more battle, and then I can switch to Silkie to keep the levels even.

OOH! THE TM WAS BRICK BREAK. THIS IS VERY USEFUL.

So I’m wandering around, and this place is a little more mazelike than I originally thought. The cloud of dust where Rattata is keeps moving, and I don’t see a ready way to track it. There might be more to this trial than I thought…

OH GOD NOT YOU AGAIN

Do I remember them? I’m saying “Sorry, who are you” because pounding them into the ground with a bird is not going to be cathartic enough.

file under: reaction image

OH NO, HE AGGRESSIVELY RAPPED TOWARDS ME…And it’s battle time!

Well, that was easy! At least Tulip got her two EXP. And now they leave. That sure did happen.

GOD I KNOW, DON’T JUMPSCARE ME LIKE THAT

…Okay, now I can keep going. But I can still see one of the Grunts back there. He’s still…he’s still going.

OH! I get it. They’re blocking off some of the dens, so there’s only one place for the Rattata to be now!

…..that’s no rattata, we have ACHIEVED RATICATE, FOLKS (I THINK I SAW THIS IN THE OPENING VIDEO)

And yooo Bug Bite was super effective! I guess it’s a Normal/Dark type!

I am now moving on to the Z-Crystal. RattataQuest is complete!

………..oh snap guys the music cut out

OH SNAP it’s….a raticate? i just…fought one of these?

OH SNAP GUYS AT LEAST IT’S A MAGIC RATICATE! Both my Pokemon are physical attackers, so a Defense rise will be a toughie, but Bug Bite should be okay!

Oh man, this thing is huge compared to Grubbin. BUT LOOK THE RATICATE JUST CALLED AN ALLY, THAT WAS PRETTY COOL

Bug Bite took care of the Rattata right away and this Totem Cate is gonna faint in one more hit, but…I wonder if I can sit here and see if Raticate calls more Pokemon? It’d be kinda cool to farm EXP from it, after all.

Nah, I’ve got a liveblog schedule to keep. Silkie almost just got knocked out, though – that Bite left her with just four HP o-o;;

But we did it!

o h HECK YES

And hey, it’s Ilima! I hope he chased out those Team Skull weirdos.

Not…really? It was just level 12, man, and it kind of got defeated by a Grubbin…

TRIAL COMPLETE!

Normalium Z, eh? Exposition me, Captain!

i am getting serious dork vibes from him. help me

So Crystals do indeed strengthen a move, but this one’s for a move of a certain type! Man, imagine taking a Normalium Z-alized Giga Impact from a Slaking. Not pretty. Do they all turn to Pulvurizing Pancake, though, like what Snorlax’s signature move thing was called?

Thank you for your Great Balls, Captain Ilima. And he healed me! Yay!

He wants me to go to Route 3 to see something, but I think I’m gonna stick out and find those Rattata, first. There’s a huge breakable rock in the corner – note to self, come back with Rock Smash.

(An interlude – I just battled and caught a Diglett, and its Alolan ability is…Tangling Hair? And now it’s a Ground/Steel type?? Rapunzel it is!)

And we’re out! I now have a Zubat, Diglett, and fancy Rattata. I looked a bit for a Raticate, but then Silkie fainted so I figured I’d get out of there.

Meanwhile. Ilima. Why are you being so formal. WE WERE LITERALLY JUST TALKING

Hey, it’s another familiar face!

I just got a little Z-Power diagram – but woah, the professor’s busting out the pokemon-catching tutorial too.

Pretty cool! I would not want to be on the end of that.

Apparently, Kukui lost Lillie somewhere in Route 3. Don’t worry, not-actually-my-cousin-because-I’m-pretty-sure-that’s-just-a-Hawaiian-term-of-familiarity-that-I-misinterpreted-horribly! I’ll go find her for you!

After I take a break, that is. I’m ending the blog here! We passed a pretty good milestone today – first trial complete! We also found out more about Alolan Forms and Z-Crystals and had another, uh, run-in with Team Skull. Those same two grunts are the only things I’ve seen so far of Team Skull. But those people harassing Lillie in the beginning were wearing white, weren’t they? Interesting…

I put all the Pokemon I caught back into the PC Box, so my team of two is starting to feel a little lonely. I daresay it’s time to start looking for another partner on Route 3! Who knows, maybe we’ll have a new friend next time!

See you soon,

~*MissMash*~

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {5}

WOW GUESS WHO’S BACK! AGAIN! That’s right, it’s MissMash! Last year, we left off:

here, all primed and ready to explore Hau’uli  Hau’oli City. Right, you’ll have to forgive me if I don’t remember names quite as well as before. It’s been a month since the last one! :/ I am an avid liveblog follower and I hate it when something like that breaks me out of the zone, especially if they’re being read all in a row in the distant future. (Oh god what if I don’t finish the game by the time Gen 8 comes out). So I’ll try and keep mixups to a minimum.

I guess that means I’d better get started, then!

Right off the bat we get some pretty beach graphics and scenic panoramas and girls in bikinis~ SHIELD YOUR EYES HAU~

It’s a little early for me to be attracting attention from strangers

oh gee i wonder COULD IT BE ‘ALOLA’

…I WAS RIGHT

can…can we walk around now? oh thank goodness we can

Ah, now here’s a name I haven’t come across yet! Pyukumuku sounds neato. A Water-type squishy sea anemone thing is my guess. (I don’t have a Water-type yet. I’M SO EXCITED TO BUILD MY TEAM.)

More exploring reveals that, oddly, you can’t interrupt Hau’s beach party time, so I’m moving on to explore more of the city. Discoveries made: My Rotomdex wiggles around when you poke it. And there’s clearly some fun places to Surf to over the ocean, but I don’t have a Pokemon to do that yet!

Also, THERE IS A PICKUP TRUCK JUST SITTING THERE BY THE BEACH. PEOPLE IN THE POKEVERSE DRIVE TRUCKS CONFIRMED. FANFICTION CHANGED FOREVER.

We are now in the shopping center. Sounds dangerous.

Hau just interrupted me. NO HAU, LEAVE ME TO MY SHOPPING oh wait he took me into the store anyways

ghjkl;’ what do you mean i can take photos of pokemon now ARE WE IN POKEMON SNAP

Well, anyways, Poke Finder sounds pretty cool! I bummed around the shop, got some Ultra Balls from a guy, and drew a Lotto Ticket before moving on again.

Rotom just came out to take a picture of Hau, Lillie, and me and I MISSED SCREENSHOTTING IT NOOO

But…who could be saying this?!

I’d say this was ominous if not for the chirpy music in the background.

Ahh, no, it’s just the Poke Finder tutorial guy. Look at me taking pictures of taking pictures! SO META!

With the new Thumbs Up mechanic, it appears that Pokemon  has finally become social media. Welp, back to exploring.

Customization! IT’S HAPENING

I just got the Lens Case and Makeup Case – would be really cool if the guys got makeup too! – and a lady outside gave me a Silk Scarf! WHICH I PUT ON SILKIE IMMEDIATELY.

And here’s my new look! The hat clashed too badly with the purple – and I think it looks kind of weird and May-esque, anyways – so I took it off. I would’ve bought another one but I would’ve had to shell out ALMOST EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS, WHAT THE HECK.

AHHHHH THERE’S A SALON NEXT DOOR. Strap in, guys, because I am saving my game and not leaving til I find a style I like. Why does this game’s customization already feel so much more expansive than X&Y???

And this looks good to me! I sure am glad Leah shares none of my fears and objections to hair dye.

…We haven’t actually gone or done anything important this episode, have we? OKAY, I’M GOING TO MOVE ON AND ASSUME YOU GUYS HAVE ALL PLAYED THE GAME AND DON’T CARE ABOUT THE MINUTE DETAILS OF EVERY INCH OF HAU’OLI CITY

Things Of Interest in the Hau’oli Shopping District:

-A heal ball

-The Move Deleter

-Hau’oli Cemetery??? When do I go there?????

-The cafe guy gave me a Rare Candy and a Casteliacone!

-FIRST MENTION OF THE VILLAIN TEAM (WHOSE NAME I WAS SPOILED ON):

Okay, no, wait, let’s talk about Team Skull for a sec. I Do Not Like Their Name. For one thing, sure, it’s a little unoriginal. But a FAR more important reason is:

teamskull

Pokemon already had a Team Skull!!! From Pokemon Explorers of Sky!!! And that game was awesome and they can’t just rip the name like it didn’t exist before, you know??? Like, did you know ORAS was NOT the first game where you could fly on a Lati@s? The third Ranger game was! That game was so good!

Okay, rant aside, looking up that image even without using any ‘team skull’ keywords caused a bunch of pictures of who was probably the team leader to pop up and no no no no no no SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

hey look a mansion

Woah, uh, walking into this place actually felt really invasive, like the concept of “i’m not supposed to come into this stranger’s fancy house uninvited” was actually a thing.

Apparently, this is Captain Ilima’s house! I thought he was a girl. Oops.

Speaking of which: I left the shopping district and entered the Marina, and hey, I ran into the guy!

?!?! And could I have run into PLOT as well?!?

oh god

….wait, what, their theme song was some sort of heavy metal rap and then Ilima just started speaking and brought the cheerful Hau’oli theme back.

And the theme’s back. OKAY, YOU TWO NEED TO STOP, IMMEDIATELY. (this picture comes with a free meta glimpse into wordpress)

AND IT’S TIME FOR BATTLE! Okay, I’ll say this: their battle intro – the black paint thing – and their battling music is pretty sick. But still. Y’all’re edgesters.

He had a Zubat and my bug defeated him in like three seconds, but this encounter made me appreciate Ilima a lot more. Look at how cute he’s being!

Smeargle, yeah? I saw the signs around town.

Oh, wait, like, by now, he meant NOW now. Okay then!

He has…a Yungoos! yaaaaaay

By the way, both Silkie and Tulip’s affection are up to 3 hearts, so at the beginning of battles they’re awaiting my instructions and reminiscing about our lives together. So cute!

The Smeargle’s up, so I’m switching to Tulip cause I haven’t used her in a while! And I’ve got a feeling about this Smeargle…hmm…

Oh, no. Dang, I was guessing it’d be an Alolan form??

Well, it matters not, because I managed to beat him! It was close, actually, because Smeargle knew Ember, and on one of my turns I was trying to type with one hand and clicked Astonish by accident. But two Leafages was enough to do it.

Away Ilima goes to Verdant Cavern, and I’d better go to Route 2 to catch up with him for the REAL trial! Though maybe I should stop for the night…NAHHHH ROTOM’S TELLING ME TO KEEP GOING LET’S GO

Lillie stopped to wish me well on the way there. I am feeling…I am feeling the warm fuzzies in this game right now. aaaaaaaahhhhhgh.

Route 2 time  – and would you look at that, there’s shaking grass in this game! A Makuhita? WHY NOT

That’s all taken care of!

Okay, this is interesting – in Route 2, I came across a house in which a boy ran away from home to go on a Pokemon journey. This is really detailed, so – who, I wonder? Will or have we met him?

I went along further and a Delibird led me to Team Skull plot, wow! And now I have berries.

And then I backtracked to visit the Hau’oli Cemetery. This is, uh…quite the casual way to introduce a cemetery to us, I guess. Wow.

I did find a Drifloon, though!! Named him Peedee! Now I can complete a sidequest for this one girl in the city who wanted one! (She gave me 10,000 Poke. Cool.)

NEW ALOLA FORM DISCOVERED: Diglett has a weird little tuft on its head. That’s another single-type Generation One Pokemon with no Mega who got a special form…

Okay, I’ve explored the cemetery quite a lot, so I’m back on the track to Verdant Cave. Not much there. Maybe it’s different in the cemetery at night.

Look at this little doot, though! Found a new Pokemon! Her name is Bessie (from The Mighty B, even though I never watched that show), although…you, uh, remember Beautifly, right? Cutiefly, Beautifly….those are pretty similar names…?

At least Bug/Fairy is a neat combo.

would like to inform: a random trainer just sent a misdreavus out. would like to inform: I LOVE MISDREAVUS SO MUCH

well, uhh…this is an interesting design?? I found this Crabrawler randomly in a berry pile…okay then!

Having explored every inch of this goshdarn giant route and caught a whole bunch of Pokemon – Growlithe, Crabrawler, Spearow, Smeargle, Drowzee, Cutiefly, even more! – I think that’s a good place to stop for the night! That’s right, at the entrance to Verdant Cavern! That means we can start right off with our first trial and not worry about all this exploring! Because I can’t stop. help me

I love the Alola region in itself, and I feel a great kinship beginning with Hau and Lillie! I wonder if they’ll get any sort of development later on…? I HOPE SO! And, uh, also Team Skull happened.

Team stats: Tulip the Rowlet and Silkie the Grubbin, both level 15. Braced for imminent evolution from either one of them. A third Pokemon still hasn’t caught my eye.

I will see you all next time!

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {4}

GUESS WHO’S BACK! I hope you all had a good week! I don’t celebrate Christmas, but hey, my Hanukkah’s going all right.

Last time in Pokemon Moon, we beat Hau in the Iki Town Festival, as well as caught a whole lot of Pokemon on the way there (and kicked off a tradition of naming them after cartoon characters!) So far Tulip’s the only one who is a definitive team member, but we’ll see what changes, eh?

So to start off, I think it’s high time that I saw what the opening intro was like. LET’S DO IT!!!!

….Okay, welp! That was pretty cool, but not actually worth posting  any pictures of. I saw the male and female Trainers and the starters, and Lillie and several new Pokemon, and a ship and some riding on a Sharpedo. And a couple of long shots of Lunala flying through space doin’ Lunala things. All set to somewhat goofy music!

(My favorite intro vid is still definitely Black&White’s. IT WAS SO COOL)

Okay, let’s get on with the blog. We were in Leah’s house, yes?\

Hey, look who’s back!

Lillie just met my mom and she’s so shyyy~~~

Mom also apparently just gave me some money – I’ve got 35,420 right now, but I can’t tell how much of that is from her and how much is from Pokemon Trainers. I kind of doubt I’ll go bankrupt, though, so no worries!

Lillie’s taking me to the lab – and ooh, looks like it’s in a new area!

I KNEEEEEWWWWWW IT WAS A NICKNAAAME

I’m glad, too – Nebby would be, well, a bit odd to name a mythical(?)!

Whatever they are, Nebby’s rare and’s got some rare abilities.

Elaborate pls?????

Ah well, the mystery remains, but there’s another hint towards the evil team. More importantly, let’s go on ahead and fight some Trainers and dig around in the tall grass some more!

(guys i love the ‘care’ ability so much)

OKAY SO here I am, catchin’ a Wingull and letting Silkie the Grubbin fight some more against some stuff, and…

??????????? THE RETURN OF THE SLOWPOKE TAILS!! This means so many things! First, SLOWPOKE ARE STILL BEING EATEN! Also, THE DEX ENTRIES HAVE CHANGED FOR THIS GAME! And even, WHY IS SLOWPOKE SO BIG?!!! 3’11????? THAT’S HUGE FOR A WEIRD LITTLE PINK BEAR THING

Okay, anyways, this guy is named The Brain after the dude from Arthur. Moving on!

After training up a bit, Silkie’s at level 8 and Tulip at 11. Now let’s see…

…what Professor Kukui is up to?

Lillie is suffering. She is sick of all this.

On the bright side, Kukui’s house is bigger on the inside than the outside, nice! I spotted a Snubbull in the corner, along with some other little pink thing, before the camera panned over.

…? Where’s this going? Why’d Lillie invite me here, anyways?

Ohhhh, that’s so cool! I love that they’re bringing old Pokemon into this! YES, POKEMON WORLD, YOU ARE FILLED WITH MAGICAL BEINGS, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM!!!

Kukui says “Here, boy!” to the Rotom. NO THEY’RE GENDERLESS WHAT ARE YOU SAYING

AHHH ROTOMDEX JUST FLEW AROUND AND THEN APPEARED ON THE BOTTOM SCREEN AND I MISSED A SCREENSHOT OF IT. This is WEIRD. And cool! And a little creepy. And creative!

I guess now I know what the bottom screen’s for.

Hey, dude!

And look, here’s the pink thing from earlier! This is the thing in Pokemon Refresh in the opening, isn’t it?

Hau wants to see the loft but Lillie gets all defensive. SHIP

Island challenge exposition time! There are seven trials, four islands, and four kahunas… and I just got an amulet. Neat!

Oh, I’m going to the Trainers’ School, am I? Where’s that, may I ask? (Also, Kukui’s Pokemon are running around in the background and it’s really cute.)

AM I IN CONTROL? THANK GOODNESS

Kukui’s lab has been thoroughly explored. TIME TO GOOOOOO

Here’s Leah in Route 1! It feels so good to have free reign of the place. I’ll probably take a little bit to run around and/or figure out where I’m supposed to go… oh wait, I should probably head back to that angry Tauros, shouldn’t I? See you there.

Aw yes, here we are! And look, the Center! I’ll finally be able to pick up that Munchlax.

This is so cool!!!! Just look at all the different stuff in the Centers now! And the cafe sounds really helpful – I’ll check that out, too.

And hey, look at this! Now I can…uh…get a Zen Mode Darmanitan? That was a thing, wasn’t it?

Uhhhh I just noticed that there were more than six options in the menu now and clicked on this new one, whhhhhat is this

(Also, is ‘Quick Link’ a play-the-game-along-with-someone thing, finally? AWESOME)

Okay, wow, Festival Plaza is involved as heck! It’s like a mix between that thing from Pokemon Black2 just outside Nimbasa and the PSS. They took away create-your-own messages, but at least there’s a lot to choose from??

I messed around in there for a while, but that seems like more of an endgame thing that I’ll look at later!

Heck yes, look at this!! I can nickname my Mystery Gift Pokemon! ALL IS WELL!!!!!!

I think I’ll name him Homer.

(I won’t be using Homer, by the way! I’ll stick with Silkie and Tulip for now.)

Down the road I go, and Lillie takes me to Kukui and some teacher lady. I like her design!

That was fast!!! But the real question is, does it work on just one Pokemon or all of them?

…Hmm, all of them, it looks like. I was hoping the Exp. Share and the Exp. All would be two separate items in this gen. OH WELL! Time to track down four different trainers and battle them!

First one found. LET’S GO, SILKIE

…of course she’s got a pikipek THAT’S OKAY SILKIE, I BELIEVE IN YOU

Nah, I had to switch out to Tulip. Eh, it does make me realize that my whole team is weak to Flying. Not too worried yet, especially since I’m reasonably sure Grubbin evolves into something Bug/Electric, but still. HEAL ME LILLIE

Just found a patch of grass! Gonna run around in it for a bit and see ifRICK FRICK FRICK FRICK

IT’S A SILVER MEOWTH!! WHAT THE HECK???? WHAT ARE YOU????????

It’s like the weirdly colored Rattata! WHY ARE THESE POKEMON SUDDENLY GETTING DESIGN CHANGES???? WHAT IS THIS?!?!?1?!?

hjkl;skl WHY DON’T I KNOW ANY CARTOON CATS

OKAY I’M NAMING YOU CHESHIRE BECAUSE YOU’RE REALLY WEIRD

wait

OH MY GOD I WAS HINTED THAT THIS WAS A THING BUT I FORGOT ABOUT IT

THIS IS GOING TO BE SO COMPLICATED WHAT THE HECK AHHHHHHHHH

HOW MANY POKEMON AND HOW MANY TYPES DOES THIS APPLY TO (DON’T ANSWER THAT)

I’M PRETTY SURE THIS IS WHAT MY FRIEND MEANT WHEN HE WAS SPAZZING OUT TO ME ABOUT SOMETHING AND HE SAID IT INVOLVED NINETALES AND I AM 99% SURE THIS MEANS WATER-TYPE NINETALES IS PROBABLY A THING?????

ARE THERE ANY POKEMON THAT HAVE BECOME GRASS-TYPES?!?! PLEASE TELL ME THAT THERE ARE SOME POKEMON THAT ARE NOW GRASS-TYPES EXCEPT DON’T ACTUALLY TELL ME I AM A BLIND LIVEBLOG REMEMBER TELL ME ANYTHING AND YOU NO LONGER GET REACTIONS LIKE THIS

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

OKAY MOVING ON LET’S BATTLE THINGS

!!!!!!!!!! GUYS IT HAPPENED AGAIN.

Funny, too, because I didn’t get anything but regular ole Magnemite for a while. I think I actually got awfully lucky to get an Alolan Form (is this what that means) Meowth on the first go.

So what type will this Grimer be? Dragon? Electric?

Nope, still Poison/Dark! Nice!

This is making me think, though. All Alolan Forms so far – Meowth, Rattata, Grimer, Vulpix – which I saw through a quick spoiler a few months ago – have been single-typed Generation One Pokemon. More Gen One bias, of course, but what other Pokemon could have these special forms, based on this…Right now I can think of Growlithe, Diglett, Electabuzz and Magmar, Goldeen…? HEY WOULDN’T A DIFFERENT-TYPED LAPRAS BE COOL?!!? This is a super weird but super AWESOME premise. And yet I’ve spent waaay too long searching for more Pokemon, so I’d better continue with this challenge.

….wait let’s search a couple more times

NEXT TRAINER AT LAST! That’s weird, we already had someone named Youngster Joey…?

Oh well. He just had a Metapod, so he wasn’t tough to beat.

The third battle is with THIS pushy child!

She had a Bonsly, which is a pretty cool Pokemon to see this early in the game! I wonder if it’ll pose a problem for SilkiNOPE MUD SLAP FOR THE WIN

I know where the fourth Trainer is, since he told me he’d only battle me once I’d beaten all the others, so I’ll go track him down.

AAAND IT’S TIME FOR BATTLE i forgot to take a screenshot but that’s okay right

He starts off with an Alolan Grimer! I’m glad I found one in the grass or else I really would’ve been caught off guard by its design.

Luckily, Silkie does just fine by spamming Mud Slap a lot! And…that’s his only Pokemon, huh? Yay, we did it!

She did get poisoned, so I healed her up with Pokemon Refresh. (which i lOVE)

Hooray, a TM! This one’s…good, I guess??? Ehhhh

And now the bell has rung and I’m being called to the office, oh no! (seriously, what did i do)

Off I go! I should probably mention I got the Quick Claw while I was exploring the school building earlier. Silkie’s pretty slow, so I’ll give it to her for the time being.

Oh hey, look at this! SECRET SURPRISE FIFTH BATTLE DESU!

She has a Magnemite, horror of horrors. I still have MUD SLAP! so it’s not a problem. And a Dark-type Meowth? What are the odds??

Once we beat her, we get some Great Balls, yay! I was wondering when I’d need those!

Woah now, there’s a cool new design!

So she’s the captain, and she’s gonna give me a trial over at Verdant Cavern, huh? Pretty cool!

(You know, I haven’t heard talk of any gyms yet, either…I was figuring that the island challenge was just the gym circuit under a different name, but could it be that we really aren’t collecting badges and all that jazz in this game? Pretty bold move for Nintendo to take, but…)

Anyways, it’s time for MORE LILLIE yaayyyyyyyyy

You know, it’s kind of nice that a random roadblock isn’t just functioning as, you know, a random roadblock, at least for now. It’s actually got some bearing on the plot. Look, even Hala and Hau have gotten dragged into this!

I say that, and then Hala walks off with Tauros and everything’s all cool. Still.

Welp, Hau and Lillie are running off, and I’ve got free rein of Hau’Oli…which is apparently the biggest city in Alola?! That was fast!!

This game has such a unique tone to it! Like, everything about it just seems to scream ‘alola.’ The colors, the characters, the buildings, even some of the dialogue. THIS IS FUN!!!!!

To end off, here’s a screenshot of my current party:

Silkie really grew on me this episode, and I’m looking forward to her evolution. Hopefully Tulip will see some more battles once Silkie’s caught up in level to her! As for the other three Pokemon, I don’t think they’ll be part of the team…well, Cheshire is cool, but it’s a little early to have half my team down with dozens and dozens more options, isn’t it?

See you all next time!

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {3}

Spoiler reminder: DON’T!

Hey all, I’m back!! The previous liveblogs have been fixed up, so I can finally continue my Epic Quest starring Leah & Tulip.

Last time, we got our starter (rowlet <3) from Kahuna Hala, and we saved Lillie’s Nebby from a flock of Spearow…or to be more precise, Tapu Koko saved US! What’s next?

This is my first time restarting the game (since liveblogs 1 and 2 were done without shutting off my nintendo), so this is also my first time seeing this screen. Look at my cute lil picture! Before I continue, I’m gonna check out the mystery gift, since I heard tell from my friend (my hungry…friend ;D) of a certain thing you could get before January….

Searchin’…searchin’….MUNCHLAX!

WHAT THE HECK IS SNORLIUM Z.

???????????????????? I didn’t hear anything about this!

Sure, I heard the word Z-Power, I think, but…????? This is extremely odd. And the bottom screen reads “Here’s Munchlax, the Big Eater Pokemon! Evolve it into Snorlax and have it hold the Snorlium Z that you receive in the game to unleash Pulverizing Pancake!”

I guess they’re like Mega Evolutions, but for moves. Hmmmmm.

Well, I can’t receive ol’ Munch until I read a Pokemon Center, so we’ll worry about that later. Let’s start the game for real. (Oh, and side note: I haven’t seen the opening story yet, either, for fear of Pokemon spoilers. But I guess anything that’s part of the game isn’t really a spoiler? Maybe we’ll do that next time around.)

I am now in control on the wooden village square of Iki Town. Before Professor Kukui inevitably interrupts me as I try to leave, let’s check out Tules’ information!

……whhhhhhat’s Pokemon Refresh. Okay, first things first.

Docile nature does not raise or lower anything, so I’m totally cool with this nature! I have no idea what stats Rowlet will be good in, anyways. On this screen,  you can actually change the markings you give your Pokemon, which is super handy for us IV breeders who uses those to denote whether a Pokemon has perfect IVs in a stat. (Yeah, I’m that kind of Pokemon player. I had a breeding service on Miiverse for a while…for any item that cost BP in Gen VI, I would breed you a Pokemon with egg moves, IVs, a nickname, whatever. It was awesome.)

Also: Leafage?  There’s a new move for ya. It’s pretty much Vine Whip.

Finally, that screen looks like something for Contests, which should be interesting.

Melemele Pokedex? Oh boy…completing the National Dex will be difficult this year.

But the rest of the Pokedex looks awesome! They brought back Appearance/Cry, you can check out their actions…Rowlet is the Grass Quill Pokemon, and they like kicking things. And they can turn their head all the way around. AWESOME.

Haha, when you turn Rowlet around and then press ‘action,’ they’ll twist their head to look at you…that’s creepy.

This blog is 500 words and I still haven’t gone anywhere. MOVING ON.

I just took a glance at my Trainer Passport, which has fifteen blank pages…? Wonder what’ll go there? Achievements?

Last thing, I promise – let’s take a look at Pokemon Refresh! OOH! IT’S POKEMON AMIE!!

!!!!!!!!! That’s so cool! And it’s so much more than just petting them! POKE BEANS, GUYS!! THAT SOUNDS SO RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME!

Tulip likes being petted on her lil belly but not her lil forehead. Okay, I’m spending a while in this. BRB.

I fed her a green bean because I don’t know what the Poke Bean colors line up with yet. Can’t be type matchups, and I’m pretty sure it’s not Pokedex colors??? Natures, maybe? Well, at least Tulip seemed to like it.

Okay, wander wander explore, run around inside a house and look at all the beds, try to leave the village….yoooooooooo

Yes, sir!

Oh, I actually thought we were gonna go right into battle, but Kahuna Hala made sure of otherwise. Well! Hau you doing?

Ahhhhh are you guys ready for my first time ever seeing what the battle graphics are like? BECAUSE I AM SO READY.

Pfffff he tells me my Rowlet looks cool, and my responses are either “Thanks?” or “You like Pokemon?” Leah is so confused here, guys. XD I’m choosing the second one.

Plasma confirmed?! N’s secret daughter confirmed?!?!?

Ahhhh, Hau is Hala’s grandson. Cool. Awesome. Please let me battle himhjkl;

aaaaaaaHHHHHHHHHH

IT’S ALL SO BEAUTIFUL

Just LOOK at this detail!!! Look at how every single living organism on this screen is MOVING!!! I love it!!!! When you click on “FIGHT” you have an option to see what each move does!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

So when, I use Tackle, it still doesn’t look directly like two Pokemon fighting each other, but…it came close! They’re trying! And it’s awesome!!

I only used Tackle to see what they did to such a classic move…I’ll use Growl and then Leafage next. Assuming Popplio doesn’t kill me.

Hey, you can check out the Pokemon’s battle info when you click on them, too!! Nice!!

Two Leafages and a Tackle finished Popplio off, and the animations are awesome, and I like how you could REALLY SEE the recall beam for Popplio and everything is amazing Tulip grew a level and Hau just said the battle gave him “chicken skin” and that is an incredibly creepy way to say “goosebumps.”

Oh, but what’s this???

Hala (or ‘Tutu,’ as Hau calls him??) has noticed the mysteriously sparky stone in my bag, and it just might have a connection to Tapu Koko himself! I’m going to say ‘That’s where I got that stone’ for this, just to skip a connecting-ideas step.

Right, so, the kahuna says I got that stone FROM Tapu, and he wants to hold onto it til tomorrow night! And also tomorrow will be a festival that I should join! That’s interesting – they usually try to avoid giving time labels to things.

But for now, I’m home.

There’s Tulip, suddenly out of her Pokeball!

What? Uh…where’s the “because I am morally obligated to choose the Grass-type” option? I’ll choose ‘cute,’ I guess.

“The next day…” What is this, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon?

I have a feeling it’s going to be a running gag that Mom’s never gonna get the boxes unpacked. Hey, here comes Kukui!

Time to learn how to catch Pokemon, yeah? Why not! Though I am looking forwards to Free Roaming Mode. When can I really START my adventure?

As soon as I step out, Kukui’s telling me to “hurry it up, cousin!” Meet you all back in Route 1.

Weird, I haven’t seen this area before! I think the professor kept me from going over there when we first went to Iki Town…

Annnnnnnnd tutorial over! Confirmed: that bird is known as PIKIPEK! Which means that the place I was spoiled on for the name had spelled it wrong. Hahaha….sigh.

10 Pokeballs and five Potions! Thanks, prof!

And hey, he finally lets me wander off on my own! I think I’ll g –

…hi

Well, that’s not happening. We’ll continue along Route 1 instead. …Which doesn’t have its own name? Weird.

FIRST POKEMON ENCOUNTERED: PIKIPEK! Which I’ll catch, yes please!

I used Leafage on it a bunch to get it low enough without making it faint. One Poke Ball thrown, and… … … Pikipek get!

And his name’s Woodstock…Woody for short, in case you want to reference Woody Woodpecker. And, hmm…you know what? I think I’ll start a theme in this here playthrough. I hereby declare that every Pokemon I catch will be named after a cartoon character! It can be anyone, from anywhere, from any movie or show, as long as it’s animated. If I really run out of options I’ll even allow animated stuff from the web like Homestuck.

(Tulip is named for the main character of Infinity Train, this awesome little pilot that I hope gets picked up into a real show.)

(And Woodstock is the little bird that follows Snoopy. Just in case.)

Okay, now that the nicknaming blood pact has been sealed, I’ll heal up and then move on and keep you posted on anything interesting.

Right, I am back, and I ran around and caught three more Pokemon:

-Ledyba (Marinette)

-Yungoos (Rikki-Tikki)

-Caterpie (Heimlich)

Now it’s time to go ahead and WOAH LOOK A BATTLE!

I see Jimmy’s received an appearance update.

Woah, what?! So has Rattata! That’s not one I’VE ever seen!!

I swear I made that joke before his Rattata came out. What’s going onnnnnnnnnn.

Okay, battle easily won, so I’ll just….move along then.

Phew, the next Trainer has a regular old Caterpie. Some semblance of normalcy restored.

Here’s another new Pokemon! Named Grubbin!!! It’s pretty cute, whatever the heck it is! I’ll name her Silkie. Judging by her Pokedex entry, it looks like she might evolve into a Bug/Electric type, so I might even use her in battle.

I’m this close to Iki Town, and I’ve gotta end the liveblog soon, so I’m gonna speed things along to the festival and end it there.

(And oh, hey, I just brushed Tulip after the battle! That’s such a great mechanic, I love it. I also petted Silkie a bunch just to see her design more.)

Here I am!

“The Alola region is made up of four islands. And each island has its own guardian Pokemon,” says Kahuna Hala. COOL.

It’s these guys!

…Why does Popplio say “Arf!”.

Oh, what?!

So the festival’s a big battle in order to honor Tapu Koko! Sounds like that could get out of hand REAL fast! Let’s do this! Who am I battling, though…?

Ah, I see.

MOM YOU’RE EMBARRASSING ME.

BATTLE TIME. Hau’s got a Pichu now! I defeat it easily enough, but it Charms me so I don’t know how much damage I’ll get on Popplio. …Even though that doesn’t turn out to be a problem, because I WON! WOO! Level Up!

Someone approves! And Hala gives me my woahhhhhhwhat is this.

Z-Ring?! Have we replaced Mega Evolution completely?!

I need to go around collecting Z-Crystals, and Hala’s not telling what exactly the special power is, and I need to go and do the island challenge and wow I guess we’re switching topics.

I’m liking this island challenge! I’m doing it to find out why Tapu took a liking to me, basically…this story is pretty solid so far. I’m down for this!

And here we go to Leah alone with Lillie, grateful for Tapu Koko for saving Nebby. Oh yeah, Lillie? You are?

And then we say our goodbyes. See ya later, Lillie!

And then we go to sleep, and I miss the ‘the next morning’ screen yet again, so I’m just gonna cut the liveblog here! Next time, we find out who just rang our doorbell. Place your bets!

This game is great. The Z-Ring stuff is a little weird, because it sounds exactly like Mega Evolution, but I won’t judge just yet!! I love the new battling screens and the way the town treats Tapu Koko so far. We’ve never really had a Pokemon that’s been deified in such a fashion – like, we’ve had deities before, but…eh, it’s hard to explain. I’m looking forward to seeing the guardians of the other three islands, and however Lunala fits into all this!

And how about that strange-looking Rattata? We’ll have to wait and see…

A Quick State Of Affairs (12/12/16)

Hi guys! Quick post to let everyone know what’s goin’ on at the blog, and thus assuage my guilt at the huge mistake I just made.

Something that I never realized before now: when you delete an image from your media library, it will be deleted in the post as well! What does this mean, you wonder? It means I have just ruined dozens of RWBY liveblog posts and I’ll have to replace about 100+ screenshots. I had deleted a bunch of stuff from my library, thinking that I just wanted to clear up some space, but…no. Ahahahahaha. AhahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

When I have the time, I’ll go ahead and rewatch the first eight episodes of RWBY (and the trailers), retake the screenshots, and fix all the stuff I messed up. Then RWBY will be able to continue. It’ll probably have been like a year by the time I get back to it, huh? Sigh…

On the bright side, I am 95% sure that the images in my Pokemon Moon liveblog are finally in working order! The third one will come up sometime tonight, tomorrow at the latest. I’m excited to play more of the game! I hope you’re excited to see it along with me!

Finally, there is currently a top 30 list in progress. What has so much of something that there’s enough of them to make a top 30 out of, you ask? Find out someday!

Catch you later,

~*MissMash*~

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {2}

Hello all! Before we start, I’d like to ask you to please leave feedback about the images I upload with my posts. Specifically, can you see them? I’ve had some problems with viewing them as well, so let me know if they’re not showing up and I’ll try to find a solution! But I’m going to go ahead and continue the game for now.

[EDIT 12/12/16: The problem with images has been fixed! Probably!!]

A reminder on spoiler policy: you may tell me absolutely nothing that I have not already directly acknowledged. Assume that I don’t want to know what you want to tell me, or if it’s an important easter egg or bit of information I missed, that I’ll figure it out on my own, even if that may be only after the liveblog has concluded. Thank you!

RIGHT! Last time, we entered our PC info; met Professor Kukui, a Rockruff, and a Flying-type that might be a Pikpek; and watched a mysteeeeerious cutscene involving a young lady and some bad guys. NOW IT’S TIME FOR

MOM! She looks nice! And hey, a Meowth! I guess our mom’s a cat person.

Mom’s still waiting on us to unpack some boxes. Off goes Meowth.

Our room! Come on, Leah, do you have to be a Pikachu fan? Also, that globe shows Africa on it, I think.

IT’S US! Good lord, we actually look like a ten-year-old.

I’m gonna walk around my room for a bit. Tell you if I see something interesting.

Ooh! I saved, finally! I’ve been at this for an hour and seven minutes.

Wh – oh. Ohhhh. That’s what felt off. The D-pad isn’t working. Well, that’s…all right, I guess? I usually use it when I’m playing anything, but I guess the circle pad is good too. I’ll check and see if there’s an option to change that, though. (there’s not)

Observations: my dad gave me a book of Adventure Rules, Kanto and Alola are apparently both on the globe, there’s a Ditto toy in the corner, I can’t check the trash can, I can’t sit on the rolling chair (D:), and there’s a moving box that has a little ‘a’ next to it when I approach. Also, Meowth says hi. Time to get going!

YEEEEES, I AAAAM, I’VE BEEN WAITING EIGHT MONTHS FOR THIS

Oh, hold on, there’s an actual yes/no option here. YES MOM WHAT DID I JUST SAY

Hey, it’s the doorbell! Gonna explore as per usual before I answer it – and darnit, I have to get used to the D-pad not working.

OR, WELL, NEVER MIND, maybe he’ll come in before I have a chance to explore anything.

…He’ll never have a shirt on, will he? Yeah, I thought not.

HE CALLED ME COUSIN AGAIN AND THE FACT THAT I MIGHT BE RELATED TO HIM IS INCREDIBLY EXCITING

Oh! So I must actually be from Kanto. That explains why I only have gen 1 plushies in my room.

…Kukui just called my mom ‘mom,’ which is incredibly weird, but more importantly, we’re getting some exposition!

That’s pretty cool! Wonder if we’ll battle him later.

STARTERS. YES PLEASE. (I’m choosing Kahuna because a) that sounds like kakuna why and b) I would like to know about this strange island and how I’m going to get there, please.)

Oh, Kahunas are like veterans! That’s cool!!! Also, Iki Town is possibly the name of where I live?

That’s the end of that…I’m legit excited to see the starters, so I’m gonna not waste any more time (well, maybe a little to poke around the kitchen) and grab my stuff from my room like Mom said.

…Is that a Big Mushroom, or

Maybe I’ll poke around Mom’s room a little too.

This is truly the most relatable game.

All decked out and ready to go in my suspiciously May-like hat!

I’M RUNNING AROUND OUTSIDE MY HOUSE!!! WHY IS MY MOM LETTING ME DO THIS AT NIGHT? WHY DO WE HAVE A GARAGE, DO WE HAVE A CAR?? I’M TOO EXCITED FOR QUESTIONS!

Does that mean what I think it means.

O-oh…leaving me to walk is fine too. There’s that kid from the intro. Hello. Where are your parents.

He’s giving me the B-Button speech – I did notice I was capable of running before. R.I.P. running shoes.

I see the entrance to Route 1! Sadly, it’s blocked off by a ledge.

We missed you too, big guy.

So there’s one of those Flying-type Pikpek(?)s over there in the distance, the reddish/whitish smudgey thing? And it appears to be glowing?? (I still love these graphics by the way.)

I mean, I won’t lie.

What…are those?? A sideways Stunfisk and a Tyrogue/Togetic combo?

Oh, well, thanks for answering that! Yungoos. Interesting name.

Aaaand we’re already in IKI TOWN! I’d normally cut the liveblog there, but I REALLY WANT to get my starter, so.

WOAH OKAY. Two things – Melemele Island? I thought he said we were on ‘Kahuna’ Island? Second, Tapu Koko! That sounds so odd! I wonder if it’s two names, or a title, or the name of a single Pokemon…

Now everybody who was supposed to ‘meet us’ isn’t here. That’s ominous.

More namedrops! Mahalo Trail, and Tapu Koko is definitely a single name, which I don’t think we’ve seen for a Pokemon yet. (Mr. Mime, I guess? Mime Jr.? Huh.) Oh, and ‘island kahuna’ is a title, not a place, except ‘Island Kahuna’ was capitalized when it first appeared, so don’t blame me ;~~;

I’ve just run around and talked to all the townspeople, and there are plenty of Rockruff around. Seriously, they’re so cute. I’m guessing they’re Normal-type to be evolved into Rock-type…maybe we’ll get finally a Rock-type that’s cute and fluffy! Or maybe Rockruff will pull a Stoutland and turn all big  and non-cute.

I’ve come up the stairs, catching my first glimpse of the tikis this game seems to abound in, and…

It’s the cutscene girl! She’s talking to the Blinky Thing in her bag!

Well, she’s moving on, so so are we, I guess. According to an NPC, the guy we’re looking for is named Kahuna Hala.

Um…no?? Because it’s night out???

Here we go, on our way to the Ruins of Conflict!! I love the transition thing at the bottom, by the way. And this music…!!

Okay so, I was walking into the middle of these to make a joke about them all watching me, and then a question mark popped up and it cut over to the cutscene girl and I jumped, good gosh that jumpscared me. Well played, Tapu Koko.

Anyways, yeah yeah cutscene girl is hiding Blinky Thing. Let’s catch up with her. It’s neat how, when you walk up the stairs, the character model leans forward like it’s putting in the extra effort.

!!!!!!!!!

IT’S………CUUUUUUUUUUTE

And being attacked by Spearow. Of course Spearow, of all things. Ah well. Let’s go save this little bundle of galaxy fluff.

Hello!

Who are you, of course, we already know what’s WRONG.

nebbyyyyy ❤

So is it just a nickname?

Cutscene Girl owns up to being too afraid to rescue it…I mean come on, they’re just Spearow! It’s not like they could drive you off a cliff and nearly kill your first Pokemon!

Wh – oh my gosh. I’m nearly tripping over this bridge. Is this a lesson on how to sneak with the Circle-Pad? It’d be a pretty roundabout way of teaching if it was, but just in case I’m gonna go…real…slow.

Oh nevermind I can’t sneak in this game.

…YOOOO WHAT JUST HAPPENED

I almost couldn’t screenshot it all! There’s Leah, huddled over Nebby to protect it – which I REALLY like, by the way, since this protag’s already showing more personality than most other Pokemon PCs. Then Nebby starts to glow, and –

Some kind of SUPERTHING shoots out of nowhere to save us when the bridge breaks! It looks like a Rotom possessing a Gallade. Pretty nice!

And after stunning us to bits (heh, because electricity) it blasts off. I love the look on Leah’s face – and how she’s still clutching Nebby. Pew indeed. That was AWESOME.

Okay, well, Cutscene Girl has experience with Nebby’s power, which we saw in the opening cutscene, and it’s apparently quite draining.

WAIT, A SPARKLY STONE??? Could it be….NEBBYNITE? If that even IS your real name!

And the cutscene girl’s music kicks up! I’m gonna go with ‘Who are you’ again…I was picturing the kahuna as an old man.

…No, as neat as that stone is, you can’t just DODGE THE QUESTION like that, lady.

Well, she tells us that Nebby is a secret, herds it back into the back, and asks us to escort her back to town. I mean, that’s asking a lot of me, but okay.

WHAT

WE HAVE A NAME.

So Lillie h – wait. LILLIE. LILLIE AND LEAH. I named my character an L name too! We’ve got Lillie and Leah!! I don’t know if I should be okay with this!!!!!!!

Cousin

Sigh. Anyways, suddenly kahuna in yellow.

Hala confirms that the electric Gallade guy was almost certainly Tapu Koko. And…Lillie tells the truth about it? Huh, odd. I guess Kukui and Kahuna Hala are in the know about Nebby too.

pOOOOOOKEMONNNNN

Okay I’m looking at the screen. I’m looking at the screen. I’m looking at the oH MY GOD IT’S SO CUTE

I THOUGHT THE OWL WAS THE WATER TYPE

I THOUGHT THE SEAL WAS THE FIRE-TYPE OH MY GOD I WAS SO WRONG

POPPLIO IS THE SEAL AND IT HAS A STUPID CLOWN NOSE AHHHHHHH

WE GOT ROWLET, LITTEN, AND POPPLIO, PEOPLE

Okay, hnnnnnnnng all of these are adorable and I don’t want to be predictable, but I think I’m gonna have to go with Rowlet with this. I was thinking about getting Litten so I could get a Grass-type later on (because I friggin love the Grass-type), but I love owls and I love birds and I love Grass-types and oH MY GOD???? I JUST REALIZED THAT I ALWAYS FIGURED NOCTOWL WAS MY SPIRIT POKEMON BECAUSE IT’S AN OWL AND IT HAD STATS THAT WOULD BE SIMILAR TO MY STATS, BUT NOW WE HAVE ANOTHER OWL WHO IS ALSO A GRASS-TYPE???? AHHHHHH

Another reason is that my friend kinda coordinated it so that me, him, and one other guy (a hungry…guy ;D) would have the full type trio, because Friend One was getting the Water-type and Friend Two was getting the Fire-type. I see now that I have fallen entirely into his trap. And yet I must choose Rowlet

COME TO ME, MY SWEET OWL POLLEN PUFF. I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER AS LONG AS YOU DON’T EVOLVE INTO SOMETHING HORRIBLY DESIGNED OR A GRASS/FLYING TYPE.

what

PLEASE CHOOSE ME, ROWLET. I TAKE BACK WHAT I SAID ABOUT GRASS/FLYING, I’LL LOVE YOU ANYWAYS EVEN AS I STOCK MY TEAM FULL OF ICE COUNTERS

c h o o s e   m e

L O V E   M E

And the scripted cinematic went off without a hitch!

ASDFKLSDFGHJKL;DFGHJK;

I’ve NEVER gotten a girl starter for a plain old playthrough before! Once, when I was going to box the starter anyways for a run using my own Pokemon, but never as my whole entire in-game starter pokemon. Did they change the gender ratios? I’d check Bulbapedia, but I’d get spoiled in a heartbeat. …No, screw it, I’m gonna risk it.

87.5/12.5, in the males’ favor. I truly did just get REALLY. REALLY. LUCKY.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHASDFGHJKL.

….

Welp! Let’s nickname her, shall we?

Her name is Tulip and I’ll call her Tules for short and your argument is invalid.

….Lillie, there are people right behind you.

POKEDEX GET! And a trainer Passport, too.

And now that I’m able to save, THAT is where we’ll be stopping for the night! I’m thrilled, guys, honestly. Nebby actually blew me away with its design – ever since gen 5, many designs have been just a touch too overdetailed to me, the kind that made me blink and squint for a bit before I got used to them. But Nebby is adorable and gorgeous! The legendary is cool too, and the starters…oh man, I had been avoiding them since the second they’ve been released. The only one I had even the vaguest idea of was Rowlet, and even then I thought it was blue and way less cute! And I was positive Litten was actually a seal, so the fact that it wasn’t was so cool! Seriously, if any diehard Pokemon fans out there want to feel what it’s like to see the starters with fresh eyes like a little kid would, stay away from game info at all costs. It’s aggravating at times, sure, but so far it is so fun and rewarding.

And I’m pretty pleased with Tulip, too. 😀 May we have many adventures in the future!

Have a good night, all, and I hope you can see the images this time. See ya!

Pokemon Moon Blind Liveblog {1}

HERE WE GO!!! IT’S THE FIRST POST!!!!

(Warning: these screenshots will not, and will never be, high quality. But if you enjoy cruddy phone pictures, read on!)

moon1

Here is my game! Not joining you in this liveblog will be my dog, who got bored and left before I unwrapped the package.

moon2

Also, he is apparently related to the demon from The Exorcist or something, I don’t know.

moon3

ALERT, THE GAME IS IN THE NINTENDO!!!!!  And the sound it makes when you scroll over it is SO COOL! I am so hype. I haven’t even looked at the back of the box yet, so I am BLIND AS HECK. You might even say…blind as a bat? Because Lunala? AHAHAHAHA MOVING ON.  I’ll also be skipping over the intro video, in three, two, one…

Okay, it was scarily black for a long period of time, and then:

moon4

WHAT IS THIS.

WHEN YOU SCROLL UP AND DOWN IT MAKES THE X&Y SCROLLY SOUND.

(English btw.)

moon5

Ah, Professor Kukui! This is one name this I’m absolutely delighted to be blind on, as I’ve never heard the name ‘Kukui’ in my life. What kind of tree is it? I’d look it up, but images of the Professor, whom I haven’t seen yet, would probably come up too, so I’ll search that up later. For now…

moon6moon7moon9

I’M SKYPE CALLING WITH THE PROFESSOR! Who is very clearly married (second screenshot, ring finger)- who to, I wonder? I mean, they wouldn’t go out and draw him up a ring if the spouse wasn’t gonna appear at some point, so we’ll see. Also, this music has actual traditional chanting in the background! Nice. Okay. What’ve you got for us, Kukui?

(I just remembered that, even though he said ‘good evening’ to me, it must change depending on your 3DS time.)

I’m moving…Aloha is a bunch of islands…I see much surfing and Water-types in my future…nothin‘ but rare Pokemon, huh? Is it another Unova-type game?

OOH HE’S BRINGING OUT THE POKEBALL

moon8

IT’S SO CUTE, WHAT IS IT

I AM ACTUALLY SKYPE CHATTING WITH THE PROFESSOR AND HIS DOG

IT JUST PUT ITS TAIL IN HIS FACE, I WANT TO PET IT TOO

ROCKRUFF. Okay, that name actually sounds familiar. Oh my god, I actually heard it before and successfully UNspoiled myself from it! That means Rockruff was truly destined to be special!

H E R E C O M E T H E Q U E S T I O N S. Oh my GOD I get eight options this time. AHHH. Not even questioning why I choose my Trainer passport like this.

moon10

So the one I’m choosing is the one second from the right, bottom row. The red cursor is on her – I think she looks most like me! Little bit darker skin tone, but about the right color of hair and eyes…

As for my name, well, I’ve already been giving it some thought. You see, it is a tradition with my Pokemon games to give myself names in alphabetical order. Thus far, I have been, in order of when I started the games: Abbi (Pearl), Brooke (Black), Claire (Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs), Dakota (Black 2), Erika (Diamond), Favianne (X), Gwen (Heartgold), Hazelle (Y), Indie (Alpha Sapphire), Jade (Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia), and Katelyn (Pokemon Ranger the first). So I now need a name starting with L. HMMM…..

Well, how do you guys feel about Leah? (long ‘e’ for those wondering)

moon11

Lookin’ good! (and oH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT SMOL BIRD? PIKPEK?)

The bird fled the scene when Kukui mentioned the word ‘thunderbolt,’ so I guess there’s a sore spot there with type disadvantages. And – HE JUST CALLED ME HIS COUSIN. IS THAT LITERAL???? ARE WE RELATED TO THE PROFESSOR????

He logged off before I could screenshot one last time. BUT WHAT IS THIS

moon12

THE THIRD DIMENSION AWAKENS

CUTSCENE

There’s never been a cutscene like that in the beginning of the Pokemon game, has there? My gosh. That was COOL. I was taking cruddy screenshots like a demon, you have no idea. Here are some that are at least somewhat legible:

moon13moon14moon15

First things first, the blond woman in this magazine. The champion, perhaps? Who else would  get a Freeze-Frame Bonus like that?

Then we cut to a SECOND lovely blonde lady, who…I don’t think she’s the same as in the picture, unless I’m being really stupid? She has a strange blinky thing in her bag. Is cute.

moon16moon17moon18

Our new rival (???) is quickly discovered by some Almost Certainly The Villainous Team Grunts and is chased down and quickly cornered. BUT THEN-

moon19moon20moon21

Blinky Thing begins to emit some MYSTERIOUS BLUE LIGHT, and then we cut to the title screen!! And then we cut to our player’s lovely house in a lovely neighborhood! (Seriously, the graphics are nice. Glad I chose Moon so I could get these pretty nighttime shots.)

And that’s where I’m going to cut this not-very-live-since-I’m-posting-all-these-reactions-at-the-same-time-blog. I’ll start up with the next one, where we’ll see OUR MOM AND HER PET MEOWTH in action! (That’s right, I’m withholding a screenshot on you!)

See you soon in The Adventures of Leah! Mashy signing out.

A Blind Liveblog Appears: POKEMON MOON

Hey everyone, MissMash here!

So, Pokemon Sun and Moon came out a while ago. COOL. I like Pokemon a lot…it’s kind of terrifying, actually, how much I have memorized. I’ve loved Pokemon since my older brother bought Leafgreen and I would hang over his shoulder and watch and be really annoying. So that’s why, when Sun & Moon were announced, I decided that I wanted to have a Cool New Pokemon Experience, which meant that I would hole myself up in a secluded corner of the Internet and avoid absolutely every bit of information about the game. I would basically spaz out every time somebody mentioned the word ‘sun’ or ‘moon’ or ‘pokemon’ or anything and it was really stressful and how did I live??? BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT, because now I am an Entirely Unspoiled and Pure Fangirl Person who is going to liveblog the game by using terrible screenshots of a Nintendo screen taken by my phone. I am excited.

Okay, ‘entirely unspoiled’ is a stretch by now because there are some things that I inevitably absorbed through Internet Osmosis. The mind’s ability to retain every detail of a screenshot of a new Pokemon you saw for .75 seconds before flipping out and leaving is truly amazing.

STUFF I’VE BEEN SPOILED ON (OR THAT I THINK I KNOW)

*The region’s name is Alola, okay??? OKAY??? ARE YOU HAPPY, WORLD??? I WAS UNABLE TO AVOID IT SO YOU KEPT SHOVING IT IN MY FACE AND NOW I KNOW, OKAY???

*The starters were my biggest area of “oh my god don’t tell me,” but I am reasonably sure that they are some varient of an owl, a seal, and a cat, and one of them is probably named Rowlet, and the water owl guy looks like a Swirlix crossed with Rufflet. I guess.

*There is a tiger thing and a blue dog thing. Probably.

*There’s this Pokemon that’s really cool and has spikes?????? There’s another Pokemon in the Monster/Dragon egg group???

*Sandcastles. Tikis?

*I’ve heard one or two mentions of baby Pokemon and “Alola form,” leading me to believe that suddenly Pokemon have become CUTE. Possibly Smeagle. Oh my god all the information that I successfully suppressed is coming back.

*Do Pokemon have new type changes or something? Like, water-type Ninetales?

* The legendary Pokemon are Solgaleo and Lunala. Don’t worry, these are things I found out on purpose so I’d know which game I wanted based on the box art. (I’m playing Moon.) Lunala is Ghost/Psychic and Solgaleo is NOT Fire, but I don’t remember its exact typing, WHICH IS REALLY ANNOYING BECAUSE I FORGOT ITS TYPING IMMEDIATELY BUT I REMEMBERED COMFEY’S NAME AFTER SEEING IT ONCE???? WHY???

* There are Pokemon called Comfey (see above), Pikpek, and Mimicute.

* Finally, one kid actually brought his copy of Sun INTO CHEMISTRY CLASS and talked about it really loudly with his friend. Thus, from their generous offerings, I have learned that the villains are team…like, Skull or Scout, maybe? I also saw a screenshot (gosh dangit imgur) of a guy in a blue&white costume saying something Inappropriate. Oh, and there is one area of the game that appears yellow when the guy who is playing the game realizes you are avoiding spoilers and flashes the screen in your face.

* That’s about it, I think. I’m way more spoiled than I’d hope to be, but this Pokemon journey is still going to be REALLY FUN.

I’ve been typing for twenty minutes. LET’S START!!!!!

Spoiler Policy: Do not tell me anything that I haven’t directly acknowledged already. This very much includes ‘hyping me up’ in ways like ‘I can’t wait for the area you’re getting to next!’ or ‘The next Gym battle is tough!’ I don’t have an ask screener for this blog, so I am relying on all the kindness and integrity you’ve got, okay? Thank you!

See you in the next post,

~*MissMash*~
